IDE controller setup just fine [acpi bios] [bus master ide]

Q: was sharing IRQs too much results in POPs and click with the sound. So I went from ACPI to standard PC, and even after numerous reboots the IDE driver is left with a terrible exclamation point in Device Manager. I know I must have Windows installed with standard PC to start, but I was too lazy at the moment . tried both via controller and the standard dual channel PCI IDE controller with no luck. i cannot now even MP3 playback: |

Re:The latest VIA Hyperion 4in1 drivers
Any VIA chipset – but particularly recommended for KT4## series, P4X4## series and newer, for example:

K7 chipsets: KT400, KT400A, KT600, KT880

K8 chipsets: K8T800

P4 chipsets: P4X400, P4X400A, PT800, PT880

well as far as i can tell as they say 'Any VIA chipset' i dont see why km400 would be an exception. in 'the tweakers section', i found this :

Older KN400 and KM400 drivers for Win2K/XP ( 8 February 2004)

that is the most recent one there, i wasnt brave enough to take a plunge… this seems like my last straw so i am gonna try it out and tell you what happens. kee your fingers crossed for me :D

so i guess you get what you pay for… tis a $8.50 mobo after all. gotta love how silent this thing runs tho, only if i could replace that PSU fan…

EDIT : that was just for the IGP! back to hopelessness…

Re:I'm having that same problem with that same board.
theres something wrong with the drivers.
is there a seperate driver package for the VIA KM400/VT8235 chipsets ?
its screwy

Re:been there done that, tried both via pci bus mastering (and made sure bus mastering was enabled in bios) and ms's standard pci ide controller .. i suspected it could have been a corrupt or mismatched .inf file so extracted untouched mshdc.inf and another file (forgot what the extension was) and tried to use that instead. after all that i am gettin the exact same problem. oh mp3s play no probs now, that was something else with sound card setting. everything works right except i dont like the idea of having exclamation marks in the device manager… i bet DMA is turned off too as is now

Re:Have you tried manually installing the IDE drivers, both for the controller and for the primary & secondary channels?

Re:yes i tried that already, it is not an irq conflict. here (http://myhome.hanafos.com/~tdawg/shyt.jpg) is a pic you could take a look at. well only if i could get this problem fixed, i would say it was worth the hassle… no more annoying clicks and pops when using ASIO even with 1/4 of buffer that i used to set before…

Re:Well, have you tried shuffling cards around in your PCI slots?

Re:c'mon, there is gotta be a way out… its just the ide driver. the rest is working fine…

Re:hmmm i remember reading those threads where they talk about sharing irq for vga card MAY drop framerate, wonder if that still holds? hi-fi sites also advise you to go with standard-pc so you could avoid sharing irq with your sound card, but oh well they could be wrong.

Re:Windows is designed to share IRQ's. Notice how hard it is to change irq's and all those other crazy address numbers for hardware in XP? That is because windows is supposed to do it for you. There is a good reason ACPI is the default installation.

Re:really? that goes against just about every tip/guide i have read… from what i gathered ACPI irq sharing = no good. i have had a great success with standard pc all this time except for this newly built computer… the mobo is soyo k7vme and the chipset is km400.

Re:You install the chipset driver? You really should not be using standard pc, it was not meant for your computer. Maybe a format.
