IDE u003e Firewire enclosures. [firewire drive] [hard drive]

Q: I want to be able to drive a 160 GB IDE and placed in a box that converts it to an external . I know that these products are available, but the only one Ive found are large enough to 3.5 or 5.25 “drive to keep. I do not need a giant to a small hard disk to keep. Does anyone know a box smaller, made for a 3.5 “drive?

yeah but that small drive still requires an external power source.

I was under the impression that 2.5" notebook hard drives do not require an external power source.

Re:this one (http://fwdepot.com/thestore/product_info.php?products_id=471) is pretty cool. The problem is thata 2.5" drive cost 3x as much per GB as a 3.5" drive.

Hmm, I kinda want one that takes power over the firewire bus. I don't know if that's possible with a 3.5" drive, though.

No its not possible, if ur gonna use it with your ibook you better get a laptop drive

Re:there are plenty out there, still pretty big, and you have to take a big power brick with you

best is a 2.5" enclosure and a 4200rpm disk since it doesnt require power even on usb
