I'm an idiot . connected to poor nutrition in 3Com 3c510 router / firewall . help [visioneer 4400 usb scanner] [visioneer 4400 usb]

Q: while driving around in my computer accidentally connected to my power in my 3Com 3c510 router and vice versa. the scanner, you would think would be more vulnerable, is fine. but I can not now the router to work. The green light comes on connector for connection to the computer, but the constant flashing “system issue” light is gone and I can not access the network.

ive tried to cool down, reset the modem, tried using a serial cable to Hyper Terminal (no answer). Anything else I can try, or should I just trash it?

Re:Check the router's manual to see if it has any circuit-breaker or a fuse. I made a similar mistake (actually worse as I plugged a 110 volt pc speakers to a 240 volt outlet…I was drunk) but just replaced the fuse ($0.50) inside the Altec Lansing speakers and saved myself $200.

Re:Your scanner has a motor, lamps, etc. It probably draws a LOT more power than your router. When you plugged the scanner power supply into the router, you gave it a lot more juice than it was intended for. You probably shorted something out. Generally, plugging in a smaller power supply isn't a problem, but a larger one definitely can be.

Are you sure there isn't something else wrong? Mis-plugged a cable, etc? That can easily happen when youmove things around.

Re:Yup, you are almost certainly screwed. But did you look at the output specs on the two power supplies to find out what you plugged into what?
