Insatlled second HD and the system will not? [posistion] [t power]

Q: I just bought a second hard drive and thought it was not a pro to install. I put the jumper on the slave posi tion as my first hard drive on the same ATA channel is the master. I also plugged the power cord and switched it, but nothing happened. For a split second powered it up but then went off. Could not anything until I power cabel for the second disk and disconnect the ATA cable, it is appropriate powers up? What am I doing wrong? Is the diet not able to handle two disks? It is a 300 watt Avance with the system of a local computer store. I also have AA burner and CD-ROM on the second ATA cable. Im running an MSI K7T Pro 2A board with an Athlon Thunderbird 1100? It can not be used to great performance, which is now half disk is installed, or is there something Im just overlooking?

EDIT: I have both drives on cable select and still got nothing? AOnly is a station on the ata channel needed power? Ive tried that but it was not recognized when I started?

Thanks,

Sean

Re:It was the power supply. I received another drive in the mail (maxtor 40gb deal) and popped it in and got nothing as well? So then I decided to swicth out the power supply from my new comet case that I just got, but figured that its ps was no better than the one I originally had. Low and behold it fired right up and both new drives were recognized. Thanks for the help Gazza!

Re:If the drive doesn't spin up when you try to boot then it sure does sound like the drive is dead unless you have a bad connection some how, was the drive new or second hand ?

Re:Ok, I removed the power to both the cd rom and burner and still got nothing. I then removed power from everything except fpr the new HD and still got nothing? Is this a dead harddrive?

Re:guy unhook the power to your cdrom and/or cdrw and then reconnect the second hard drive as before and then try to see if it'll work for you , if it does then sounds like a your psu is under powered for your system.

Re:Sounds like a power issue to me. I had the same thing happen, but I had alot more devices, but it was still too much for my little 350watt, so I switched to a 460 and no more problems.
