Install XP without a floppy? [sata hdd] [windows xp home]

Q: I tried to install on a newly built PC. My is properly installed, but is not recognized by the XP installer. I know I need to install drivers for the HDD, but I have no floppy, so when I need to install A: nothing happens.

What can I do? I have at my disposal:
portable USB 2.0 USB Zip HDD
portable drive
another PC . but no floppy (

TIA

Re:Drivers MUST be on a floppy unless you slipstream them onto the Windows installer CD (more trouble than it's worth).

Who doesn't have 2 or 3 old floppies lying on the shelf? Pull one out of another computer temporarily or buy one (or invest in a USB Floppy if you do repair work).

If I were you I would install a floppy. I'd never go without one on a system that needed drivers loaded. What happens if you ever need to run a repair install, a boot sector repair or just access the repair console in the future? You'll be up the creek without a floppy.

Much as they're trying to phase them out, I would never own a system without a floppy. Still required for trouble shooting if nothing else.

don't u have another machine….(Like the one youj are using right now to post/reply). Download the drivers from the manufacturer's site and burn it into a cd or usb drive and then transfer it over.

IIRC, the F6 process redirects you to the A drive (diskette) and does not give you the option of browsing, so putting the drivers on a cd/usb drive won't help.

Re:What motherboard is it, exactly?

Re:As far as I know, the mighty "hit F6 to add additional drivers" is a floppy only process. Could you slipstream the needed drivers onto a XP cd? You would not need to permanently install the floppy, just lay it inside the PC for the install process.

Re:was hoping to find a solution where I don't have to do that :o

I haven't used a floppy in 2 years…it kills me that I need one to build a pc

Re:Buy a floppy drive, maybe? They only cost about $12.00 -> problem solved.
