Installing WinXP on a SATA hard drive . [sata hard drive] [computer copy]

Q: But Ive never had so Im sure. Anyway, Im installing WinXP on a 74GB Raptor and I do not have a floppy drive. Is the only way to install WinXP on a floppy drive to steal from another computer, copy the RAID drivers from the CD to a floppy and do the F6 thing in WinXP setup? Is there another way? Thank you!

Best Answer: i think you should select the combined mode in the pata or sata something like that….

Re:They are directly between the CPU and the AGP slot. Not a great place for SATA jacks if you ask me, but whatever :P As for the video, I don't know, but you could try a different video card for a while if you wanted to investigate.

Re:Wow, though I don't have the board here, I bet you're right… Just next to the ATA133's right? Garrrggghhh… *beats self w/Sprite 12pk*… Dang I feel dumb, lol. I'll go check that out ASAP…

One more q as long as I'm on such a roll… the video occasionally glitches when we turn the thing on… is there some good reason for that, is that something with this BIOS before update, or is this something completely unheard of that's only happened to us…

By "glitch" I mean like font turns into random japanese looking characters and little dashes randomly appear on the screen… then it fixes itself. I don't think it'll happen in Windows because even the WinXP install has appeared just fine, it's just when it's booting…

Thanks again!

Re:Plug the drive into one of the two SATA jacks that are located above the AGP slot. Those two are hosted by the nF3 250 itself, and ought to work "natively" (yeah, famous last words… ;) ) without needing a driver floppy. Good luck!

Re:Oh boy… I actually forget the board as the computer belongs to my friend and not me but it is a Gigabyte nForce 3 250 board if that helps any. When I do the WinXP install I get that wonderful "No hard drive detected error" and all I can do is restart the computer which is of little help.

BTW: If that doesn't help any I can go over and check what board it is specifically. I'm more familiar with my Abit's and ASUS's, always forget Gigabyte…

You may require a floppy to install drivers for RAID if you want to set up RAID.
If you just want to install XP on a single SATA drive, you just treat it like PATA. There should be no need to a floppy. With some motherboards, that is true, but with others it's not. What motherboard or SATA controller are we talking about here, guy?

Re:You've got to have a floppy. If there is a way around that, it is more trouble than borrowing or buying the $10 floppy to do the install.
