Q: I have Cablevision optimum online service connecting the wireless network at home. I have a problem with Internet Explorer. When I try to first connect to a website, it is excruciatingly slow (sometimes 10-30 seconds). Once it starts loading and fills quickly. Recently, I downloaded a 50 MB file via the Web. The browser spent about 1 minute on Contacting the server, and then continued on to download 160KB/s.
A friend of mine suggested I try and use the Opera web browser, because it should be “the fastest “. I installed the Opera browser, and indeed much faster loading. There is no longer a break. I am used to IE, and would like to continue to use if possible. Is there a setting in the configuration of IE is that the loading time will decrease?
TIA.

Re:what windows and IE versions?
Re:When I checked the settings, Automatically Detect proxy settings was actually unchecked. Enabling this option resulted in no noticeable difference. When IE pauses, the bottom dialog box is always empty.
Re:when you try to connect to a site in IE does it show something like "detecting proxy settings…" or some sh*t like that ? if so go to tools-internet options-conenctions-setup and go thru the wizard and uncheck "automatically detect proxy settings"
this speeds it up some
