I know 98 had a way to renew the ip but cannot find a way on xp ???
I also tried the run command with t he ipconfig/all and it says cannot find it ???

Have you try to re-install the TCP/IP stack?

No,how would I do that ???
I was getting ready to buy another brand of router ??

Re:It sounds like the router is not providing DHCP. My router frequently chooses to stop providing DHCP to one of my systems. It refuses to acknowledge that the other system even exists no matter what until reset the router. After that, everything works fine for a few more days.

Grrr. I hate Linksys (WRT54G wirelesss 802.11g router with recent firmware).

Re:It sounds like the wired isn't getting an DHCP IP from the router, assuming you have that kind of setup. Not sure on a fix, and I may be wrong…how is your setup?

Re:was this ever corrected ???
I am having the same problem with the ip address 169 on wired desktop and 192 on wireless laptop and cannot connect to the net on the wired ,just the lappy..
How can I get the 192 ip back on the wired pc ???

Re:Looks like my brother somehow posted w/ my ID (I don't rememebr ever leaving it logged in on this PC).

Thnx for the info though (I'm glad to know it)

Re:Read the link – It tells you how to uninstall it.

Re:Well, since it isn't needed at this time…how would I remove it? Why would IPv6 add all of those strange additional devices?

Re:Looks like you got IPV6 installed. MS IPV6 info on TechNet (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/Plan/FAQIPV6.asp).
