Is Abit KT7 Support Duron 1000? [kt7] [athlon xp]

Q: Sounds like a simple question, but I get no easy answer.

So far I have received a yes, because it is a 200MHz chip “and a” no, because it has the same core as the . “Plus some people confused with the and KT7A.

Please me free.

Re:I wish I can dig up some pictures for ya since a picture is better than thousand words but… anyways, you should see a clip sticking out at one end of the heatsink. Press it down and push it outward (away from the heatsink, may require a screwdriver since I don't know what kind of heatsink clip the ratail one uses). Once one side of the clip is off, gently lift the heatsink from the cpu (wait! since you're using the retail heatsink, it must have a thermal pad which is probably glued to the cpu). Unlock the cpu from the slot (lift the cpu slot lever on the side). Then gently lift the heatsink along with the cpu (if they are not glue together, remove the heatsink first before releasing the lever). If the thermal tape melted and is glued to the cpu, it may require a little force to remove heatsink from the cpu (be very gentle removing the heatsink from the cpu).

Re:i already installed it at default (10×100) so how can get the retail hsf off( had a problems installing it) and connect the l1 bridges.

Re:Yeah it'll work fine, just set the multiplier manually if it gives you any trouble. While your at it may as well pencil the L1s and bump it up to 1.2ghz ;)

Re:I got a retail duron 1ghz from newegg to run on Kt7Raid v1024 w/ default bios.

Re:It should work on a but may require a warm reboot from time to time if the correct speed doent post, other than that it will work just like the older durons, There is a detailed explanation on Pauls faq, I would post the link but I havent got it with me at the moment.

Re:Really not bad news. The bad news was not knowing. This was for a second computer I'm putting together, so I'll just drop back to the 950 or 900 (any thoughts?) and hope I get a good chip for overclocking. Face somewhat the same situation with my KT7A, but with it I'm more than happy enough to go with an Athlon 1.33 or 1.4.

Re:sorry got some bad news 4 u…
if you got the … then the answer is no..

Re:Good to know, but was it an Abit ? Have no doubt that a KT133 board could do, but it's old story of different boards & bioses…

Re:i've tried the duron 1000 on an kt133 board … and it works (of course BIOS update is necessary)

i'll try and dug up some more info
