Q: Nobody seemed to go crazy about it when it was released for the PC, it is still the most popular game on the XBox. Whats the deal?

Re:I like modding it. That's about it. I once made a mod for Hang 'em High that made it a tactical shooter. But it took a looooooooong time (literally thousands of variables that effect damage thresholds, jesus), and Halo has been gone from my system for 3 months or so. Lack of AA/AF support is worthless.

Also AF will work with it but not AA.

Oh, I agree with that. MC has enhanced abilities in the books, but not the game. Not sure why that is. Coming from a Q2 and UT background on the PC I never cared for Halo's mutiplayer… it's just too slow paced for my liking. But I really enjoyed the co-op mode on the XBox. I spent many hours playing that mode with my friends (you know, friends actually at my house… that may be a foreign concept to some of you PC-only guys
). Co-op adds a lot to any game IMO, it's too bad that feature didn't make it into the PC version.
Anyway, Halo is not what I'm asking about. The statement made was that PC gamers have come to expect more from their games. It doesn't specificy FPS, just games in general. IMO, that is blatantly false, so I'd like to hear some examples as to why some people here think that statement is true.
I actually like the slow-paced of Halo. It required some strategy in killing your opponent rather than twitching and firing.

Re:Halo was awsome on the XBOX. Much better than Halo 2. The problems on the PC front were:
1. It didn't look that good for it's steep system requirements.
2. Anti-aliasing didn't work for a while. It might still not work, idk).
3. When shooting, you never really felt the impact against your enemies.

As far as typical PC games go, Halo is rather unsophistocated. PC gamers have come to expect more out of their games.
Expect more? I'd like to hear some examples of this supposed sophistication. Being both a PC and console gamer I just don't see it.

Re:Along with others in the thread I thought it felt too much like a console shooter. It kinda felt slow, like I was moving through molasses. I'm also used to the more twitchy shooters such as HL and HL2. I play mostly HL Deathmatch so the single player version of Halo on the PC was way too slow for my liking. I didn't finish it, I quit and uninstalled because I got bored with it.
Re:I really liked Halo on PC (I have played it through twice which is unusual for me). I didn't have any framerate issues on either of the machines I played it on.
Re:personally i thought it was a decent game, well worth the 30 bucks i payed for it at the time.
Re:Halo PC didn't have a way to get AA, or I couldn't figure out a way to force it.
The way they designed the aiming system is too smooth for enjoyable mouse shooting; it's definitely more suited to joystick control. I don't think they optimized anything there.
Halo PC is generally considered an all-around bad port of Halo Xbox, and when it came out, there were other games that far surpassed it in enjoyability as well as graphics.
Re:No, not worth playing at all. Only the Silent Cartographer and The Maw levels show any fun or originality at all, and the rest are some of the most repetitive things you'll ever play. It's easily one of the worst big budget games ever created.
Re:I enjoyed playing Halo on the Xbox… especially co-op with my friend and once again with my brother. But on the PC… eh. Online mode was kinda cool, but it was pretty bad compared to CS or MOH. This was before Halo2 with online play came out.
Re:I enjoyed playing Halo on the PC. Didn't have any real issues that I can recall
Re:Halo on the PC had some serious framerate issues until a few patches in and just didn't meld well with the twitch style of PC shooters, in my opinion.
Re:Having only played Halo on the pc I can only say it was somewhat of a chore to see it through to the end. Not sorry that I played it, but there are too many other shooters I'd rather replay.
Re:I have never completed the single player (always get bored with it) but I still play the multiplayer on a regular basis. I have always found it to be really fun and would still choose it over FEAR multiplayer or several others that I have tried.

Re:I didn't like Halo PC, well I didn't like Halo Xbox either. I had gotten Halo free when I bought my Sound Blaster Audigy 2 card, I installed it because I really hadn't given the Xbox version much play. It was sort of fun, nothing new though. Also it ran like turd on my box unless I turned the gfx's down, and my box was pretty good at the time, well decent enough to where it should have ran it better.
Re:Wasn't there an issue with Halo and AA and/or AF? I haven't played Halo in years but I do remember people saying it was very poorly ported. Even fast systems back then chugged in frame rates. I doubt modern systems would have a problem running it.
It's only XBox's most popular game because it launched the XBox. It was a blast playing through missions in coop (even though unfortunate split-screen) but there's plenty of better games out now.
I never played Halo2 on the XBox because I sold it before the game came out. I've got an XBox360 now though. Anyone know when Halo 3 (http://www.bungie.net/Games/Halo3/) is coming out?
Re:As far as typical PC games go, Halo is rather unsophistocated. PC gamers have come to expect more out of their games. The distinction between PC's and console games is getting more blurry with each successive generation of consoles though as consoles become more and more capable and even better at their single purpose than general purpose PC's. But by the time Halo came to the PC, most people probably already played it on Xbox I'd wager. I didn't. I got it when it came to PC. It was ok. But like all Console to PC ports, it felt very "consoley." It lacked the depth and complexity I'd come to expect from PC only games.
