Q: I am building a system that I plan on running Linux. The problem is, all Linux compatibility sites I find are either outdated or very few hardware reviews. Is there a good place for this information (primarily for motherboards to find) or am I just SOL (trial and error)?
Thanks
Re:"are you tired of operating systems that work, are you tired of not having to write your own hardware drivers?" .. heh something along those lines….

I actually know someone who did this, heh. They got a 64MB graphics card when it had just come out. No drivers, nada, of course the person in question is also kindof neurotic, so they wrote it entirely in ASM… I also have a friend who wrote a driver for his TV-tuner card :0)
Re:Yes, I was joking. Doesnt anyone remember Linus' original post about linux?
Re:i *think* guy was just joking but if he were serious, i'd say that having to write drivers in order to get started with an operating system is a little too much to ask for.

a good OS is any OS i dont have to write drivers for. unless i feel like it. sometimes i just dont wanna work hard to get a functioning machine. (yep im installing redhat 7.1 from the SGI's XFS boot cd, thats how lazy i am).

Re:Wow, just what I was looking for, especially the second link. Although any information on the subject can be sketchy, those links were very good. Thank you.
Re:I also had this site bookmarked, and found it really good when I built my last system:

Re:Here are a few that I have bookmarked:
http://lhd.datapower.com/
http://www.linuxhardware.org
http://www.linuxhardware.net/
http://www.linux.org/hardware/components.html

Also, the Hardware Compatability lists from whatever Linux distribution you are gonna install can be lots of help..
Like this one from Redhat for 7.1: http://hardware.redhat.com/hcl/genpage2.cgi
and this one for Mandrake 8: http://www.linux-mandrake.com/en/fhard.php3
