Is this motherboard Gone Bad? What else could it be? [maxtor hdd] [corsair xms]

Q: I have a couple of PCs all based on ASUS A7N266-VM motherboard, but I think that one went bad and here is why.
I have a 30GB hdd MAXTOR that worked fine on a box, but gave me a crash when transferred to the bad “; mobo and after I started some games. I ran memtest86 and got an error message before the video when mad. I swapped the KVR-PC2100/256 for some and still got freezes memtest86 run. Traded me the power smoothly, a 300W Antec PP-303X for a new Antec 350W Smart Power. Yet I get is a bare minimum errors.
This PC with only one hdd and nothing else. Would the cpu? It a1600MHz Duron. I think not, I think the board. I have bios 1007 installed the BIOS update is recommended for this Applebred.

Suggestions are welcome.

Do the sticks run ok in the other machines?

yes

Except for another machine with an old SOYO mainboard which is in for repairs. I gave that new memory and it's bad as well. The soyo is based on the via kt266A chipset. It's a Dragon plus or whatever.

Re:Both are Revision 1.05. These tests and failures were in DOS running memTest86 so I don't think the hdd is a consideration unless just having the hdd plugged in is a contributing factor.

Did you swap it with the OS installed and then the problem surfaced?
