Just over the KILL mode . [corrupt files] [video card]

Best Answer: Trash it and buy a new comp for $500. Seriously a Pentium 2 sucks, its not worth time and effort to reformat and repair.

Re:Is it corrupting files or the memory pool?

the fact that they passed memtest on your comp and not on your mom's comp probably means that it was just incompatible with the mobo in your mom's pc, not that the ram is bad. The memory issues you are having lie solely in your mobo, the ultra-d, which is the single most bitchiest board when it comes to memory in existance. i would bet that the new sticks would cause the same problems. if they do, go to dfi street, as the people there are very knowledgeable about how to get the board running stable.

Right, I'd look at buying modules they list as "compatible" as well.

Re:On your mobo, you need to use the two orange slots. DFI can be very picky about where you place the ram. Also, your current psu is not compatible with DFI.

Wait 'til your new psu arrives.

Re:OK, I ran a memtest, but I used my moms compy as I need to use mine… both sticks failed :( RMAing to Newegg to get replacements… kinda suck that I have to pay to ship the item back to them… oh well, guess i will have to wait on my killer BF2 machine :(

Re:The memtest I linked to is sufficient.

Re:are there any other tests i can do on the memory?

and i was using the memtest built in my mobo.

Re:RAM wouldn't be causing any power issues. You could try running memtest for longer (4 hours isn't a terribly long memtest session). Use Memtest86+ (http://www.memtest.org/) if you aren't already.

Better stick with the 6600GT til your new PSU arrives. Perhaps the 7800, in a fit of power hungry crashing madness, corrupted some system files. I'd run a chkdsk /r on the drive to be safe. You'll probably need to boot off the XP cd and run it in the recovery console.

hmm…

well i swaped the 6600GT for the 7800GT (the 78 is in the machine now) and swaped out the 2GB for the 1GB (1GB is in now) and it seems to be running ok… which makes me thing it is the memory, but there were no problems with the memtest… any other ideas?
