Q: I gathered all of the hardware and I can not pass the boot screen. I press DEL for BIOS and its just on the home screen. Ive tried both a USB keyboard and a PS2 keyboard. (The USB keyboard does not even burn.) I tried removing everything except the CPU, 2 sticks of RAM and video card, but still no luck. System is GA-945P below.
C2E QX6700
Gigabyte-S3 x 1GB DDR2 667MHz PC2 motherboard
4 Wintec 5300
PNY card
2 8800GTS 600W x 150GB Raptors
Coolermaster PSU
Thermaltake Case
Matrix (This system has nothing to do with my sig.)
What can I try next? All fans of the fires. Thank you.
EDIT: Signature removed to avoid confusion.
Best Answer: The most common cause of computer freezes is a corrupt registry.
Corruption within your registry keys, registry classes, and registry settings are the most common causes of Windows error messages.
The Computer registry is a database that stores all of your computer
settings. The computer registry becomes more complex as you use your computer. The more programs you use the greater the chance your
computer registry will develop errors and become bloated over time. Without cleaning the registry on a regular basis it is very likely that your PC will freeze.
Cleaning the Windows registry improves the performance of your computer and will reduce the number of PC freezes. The Registry cleaner cleans the registry and frees up Windows registry space.
Completely clean your windows registry with a few clicks of the mouse

945 chipset is not compatible with the Kentsfield. I have to get a new motherboard at Frys.
i was gonna say this exact statement. How the heck are you running a QX6700 on a 945 board??!?!?!?
more on the matter how the hell did u get it to boot up??
i have a QX6700 and i paired it up with the ASUS Striker. Im not happy with it right now because i think my friends Extreme C2D version runs a tad big faster on a cheaper Asus board.
But for heavens sake, your running a 1200 dollar processor on a sub 130 dollar board?!?!?!
Also i would step up your PSU. I dont think your coolermaster 600W can/will keep up with a quadcore + 2 raptors + 8800GTS.
Im running a simular config as yours except my board being a striker and my card being a GTX instead of a GTS. I did some psu calculations and peak would push it over 600W. Thats 100% utilization. So i ended up dropping a 700W S12 that blew out today! its on its way to RMA right now. But yeah, id watch your psu, and please get at least a decient board for that cpu.

Re:I went to the Gigabyte site here: http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Moth…&ProductID=2324&ProductName=GA-945P-S3 (http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/CPUSupport_Model.aspx?ClassValue=Motherboard&ProductID=2324&ProductName=GA-945P-S3)
According to the chart, the GA-945P-S3 does not support the QX6700 however Gigabyte told Anand it does here: http://www.{$MySite}/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2848&p=2
You should be able to use a USB keyboard on initial setup. One beep would indicate a normal post. You might try Ctrl+F1 to see if you get the boot from menu.
Re:OK, thanks for your help. No beeping when it turns on, just one beep at first and that's it. Shouldn't swapping this RAM around like I did identify a bad stick?
RAM is below;

I have to leave for work now but will check again when I get home. Thanks again for anything can come up with.

OK, I did have time to lift the motherboard out and try it. I tried multiple combinations of RAM (2 sticks) and I can't get anything to respond.
I'm using the quad core intel, 8800GTS, 2 sticks of PC2-5300 RAM, the GA-945P-S3 and the PSU. It gets to the mobo splash screen, identifies the processor and just sits there. Along the bottom it says DEL for BIOS, F12 for boot options, F9 for something else. The PS2 keyboard will flash all three LED's momentarily when I first turn it on.
I am unable to proceed in any way no matter what I try so far. Does it sound like a bad motherboard to you? Are these components all compatible?
I would guess that one of the sticks of ram is no good. I'm taking a look at the manual for the board and I'll see if anything else could be the problem.

Re:My bad. I did in fact get your new buil confused with the rig in your sig.
Your new build DOES need two sticks of ram to boot.
Re:OK, I have to go to work, the RAM switching didn't help any. Will yank the motherboard tomorrow.
I'm temporarily using my power supply while this guy picks his up. (A much better unit.) Could an inadequate PSU cause this problem? I don't think it would but I know an underpowered system can do strange things.

OK, this system can be booted with a single stick of DDR2 then? I will try that. Then I will yank the mobo out and build it on the table.
Yes and yes. Please keep us posted. ![]()

Re:Try one stick of ram at a time.
Try with the MB outside of the case.
