KinMax Memory stability problem . memory or other? [stability issue] [gf4]

Q: I have the following system that is not overclocked.
WinXP Pro SP1, 2.4GHz Pentium 4 (533MHz)
MSI 845GL board (333MHz not officially supported, but reviewers had no problems at 333MHz) Kingmax PC3200 ram 0.
2 x (see below for specs) True Power 480W
Antec PS
-4200 64MB video.
Antec 1030b case, well ventilated and cool.

Problem: When I use the memory at 333MHz instead of 266MHz, using the SPD settings of the system is unstable, and most games crash after a minute or two.

To “fix” the problem, I changed the memory timing to the most conserative possible, and the system is stable. If I were one of improving the memory timings the system unstable. I tried running only one module, but the same result.

Is the problem my memory modules? I am very tempted to Corsair XMS 512MB PC3200 module buy, but hate to spend $ 150 improvement.

Ive also upped the memory, AGP and CPU voltages in different combinations, but no one has improvements.

Suggestions, ideas? Want more info? Let me know.

Best Answer: what language? c++? if you're not sure what the code is doing, maybe you shouldn't be playing with the source.

Re:Yeah well, turns out like many PC3000+ memory, it'll do 333mhz but at reduced clock timings.

oh well….like I said while back….I might just go buy some properly rated hi-speed ram and ebay my kingmax ram.

thx guys…..

Re:Soz, I said Kingmax=generic because it is probably just generic re-branded (like SMART etc), i.e not Kingston which is a brand.

Re:Geez, two flames in a row…..

Generic memory?? Um….Kingmax=generic?

The Mobo, according to anandtec and Sharkey's did 333mhz without problems, and overclocked very well.

Also, I did stabiliy tests with just one 256mb stick….no noticible difference.

Now, just to add, I may have found my own answer…..something that the previous flames…errr, I mean posts didn't say. I searched for "user reviews" of this particular Kingmax memory. I found that Abit boards seem to not like it…..interesting.

I'm ordering a 512mb stick of some other brand memory….maybe a cosair xms module… hopefully it'll work better. Guess I'll just eBay the other sticks. Bummer too.
