Klipsch 5.1 Ultra's or cheap home theater? [promedia] [somethin]

Q: My old v2-400 speakers are starting to spend, so this summer Im in the market for new speakers for my computer.
Next years, because I have my own room, my computer is going to be doubling as a TV, so now Im thinking maybe I should consider a home theater cheapish setup.

Which do you think money would be better spent, will Klipsch 5.1 s or spending about $ 400 on a home theater setup?
Would be correct in assuming that something like this (http://shop1.outpost.com/product/3633565/) would be better than the Klipsch computer speakers?

I would listen to music and watching TV and movies on them more than gaming. I have an nForce motherboard, so the Dolby Digital Out, a bonus.

Thanks.

Best Answer: You can build a 2005 Media Center Edition Computer. Graphics Card and CPU don't need to be the best. A Pentium 4 3.0GHz with hyperthreading is enough power. An ATI 9800Pro graphics card is big enough. You don't need to spend alot on these to watch HDTV. You buy the software (OEM) 2005 Windows Media Center Edition. You would also need a tv tuner card, ATI 550 Theatrix Pro and the HDTV tuner, ATI HDTV Wonder. Western Digital makes large harddrives 320GB to 500GB. You might also want to buy an Audio/Video Receiver with optical inputs for sound.

You can record all HDTV programing with an electronic TV guide such as the Titan TV Media Center program.

The Klipsch will be superior to any "HT" setup in the same price range.

I would agree with this, but if you are at all concidering any higher budget, you would start to see major advanatge in soundstage with a 'seperates' HT setup utilising a good amp and speakers for about $800+ (ie. not a box solution, go to a proper HT store and audition some 'cheap' setups).

My first HT setup cost me $600 for the Amp, $600 for the speakers and it was very good indeed – so good I still have the original amp and speakers in my system, after 4 years, accompanied by a $820 dvd-audio player, $300 cd-player, and digital televison… Still dont need to upgrade yet, and my next purchase is an M&K V851 subwoofer for $1200. If you choose really well to start with you can have a really great system and not have to upgrade it every year or two.

My computer pretty much will be my home theater; I'll be using it for music and tv.

Take a close look @ the z-560's they are awesome, I also have the Onkyo HT-S650's for my HT and if I had to choose I would save a couple of bucks and go with the z-560's.

Re:If you're using Soundstorm, get the Onkyo setup. The Soundstorm's ability to encode everything into Dolby is great, and you'll need something that can decode it. The Klipsch setup can't do this.

Re:the klipsch are pricey and only have analog inputs, not very good for a "home theater", it all depends on your definition of the term. go to a local store and hear the speakers for yourself, then listen to a home theater system. then deside based on price :)

everyone in heres going to have a different opinion of the matter, deside for youself.

Re:I recently got the Creative Gigaworks 7.1 system, for about $100 less you can get the 5.1 version. I have no complaints at all – movies, music, and games all sound fantastic and go as loud as my ears will allow. The Klipsch are solid as well, judging by the praise they get from most people. From everything I've read these two systems are the sound quality & volume equivalent of ~$1k HT systems.
