Q: Ive tried a 45GB IBM 75GXP with fdisk that comes with Win98SE fdisk, but it does not seem to see anything above 8GB. I know this used to be a problem with the old BIOS, but Im sure you all know that this new.
Any idea what could be caused be stuck on the 8GB limit? I have not seen all the settings in the BIOS would. But I might be overlooking it.
Ideas/Suggestions/Solutions would be significantly appreciated.
Re:u know what? i couldn't figure that out myself… most of the larger drives i've played with also preferred 15 over 16.
in some cases i even had to run it in non-lba mode to work properly…
Re:It would detect at 45GB. It took a while to figre out.. And I still don't quite understand why this worked. But there's different jumper sections for different types of drives. I just tried them all. Apparently it liked it being a 15 head drive instead of 16.
Re:ic. and i assume your BIOS settings are correct? Did you use Auto-Detect for the drive or did you enter the info manually?
If it's on Auto-detect and it still doesn't work try manual. If still this doesn't work you might want to check the drive. I've come across several drives that allow you to hardware disable anything over 8gb – not sure if IBM drives have this but it's worth checking out on their manuals and such.
Re:Nope.. Just one drive. Here's the configuration:
IDE-0 (Pri. Master): IBM 75GXP 45GB
IDE-2 (Sec. Master): Pioneer 10X DVD
IDE-3 (Sec. Slave): Sony CD-RW
These are all on the 'regular' IDE channels. Not the RAID ones. Just mentioned that it was a KT7-RAID in case it had some sort of relavence.
Re:Are you running in RAID configuration? if so, what are the Disks used?
