Q: Just over eight months ago, I spent a fortune on upgrading my system, but to my despair I found my new Abit KT7A montherboard and my new Soundblaster 5.1 Player of the system to hang due. Finally I saved up for any sound that is not designed to potential problems with the 686B southbridge chipset and guess what? Yup, after trying it out with a new installation of Windows, you can guess my system hang.
As this is a bit of a problem. I have the latest VIA 4-in-1 drivers and the latest Santa Crus drivers (Im in the UK and the card is a Sonic Fury here, but they are the same) VIAHARDWARE.com followed others instructions (such as setting IRQ-5 to ISA Legacy) and still have problems.
If anyone can advise I would be much appreciated. The problems must be related to sound in one way or another if I removed the card and the system is completely stable (as it was when I made the player is removed, and a Vortex 2 I also tried in IT) 0.
My complete system as it is:
AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1.2GHz 256Mb PC133 CAS2 Crucial 266FSB
ABIT KT7A DIMM (512 total)
Videologic SonicFury (Turtle Beach Santa Cruz)
nVidia V.90 K56flex HSP PCI ATA133 7200RPM Modem
Maxtor D740 40Gb hard drive (IDE 1: Master)
Fujitsu TNT
PCTel Motherboard
2x 6.4 GB drive (IDE 2: Slave)
Matshita DVD drive (IDE 2: Master)
Again, if anyone can help, rather than an answer. Im desperate now!
Re:My Bro has the same setup using a SB live, The fix is in upgrading your Bios. Here is the link you need to read up on all the stuff..FAQ (http://www.viahardware.com/faq/kt7/kt7faq.htm)
Re:sorry double post.. still trying to get this posting stuff down
Re:Check out this FAQ at Icrontic (http://www.icrontic.com/faq/index.php3?theme=4&level=4&question_id_select=188&chapitre_id_select=31&document_id_select=3)
I imagine both of these cards are having a similar problem. Look at the common things. Location on mobo, are there any cards next to it? Is it in the shared slot with the Highpoint controller (RAID)?
Re:What do you mean by "BSOD"? Also, doesn't the KR7A use the KT266A chipset not the KT133A?
Re:I'm having the same problems. I'm getting the BSOD. Though I have the KR7A-Raid and I'm on Windows 2000.
Re:I'm using Windows 98, and I am actually using the latest Santa Cruz drivers.
Re:What O/S are you using, I have had some problems in XP with this card. There are some beta drivers on the TurtleBeach web site, I would give those a try as they are more up to date than the drivers on Videologics site.
