Q: I have an Abit mobo KT7A, and an ASUS V7700 32MB AGP card. At startup (cold boot) I get 1 long beep and two beeps shourt. This is a video error code of the BIOS.
If you the power to remove from the socket, remove the card, reseat the card and power and turn the system on, everything works fine. If you warm boot (ie if the PC is running and you press the reset button or restart the computer), it works fine. This problem is only when the system restarts cold. I have the mobo replaced, anohter KT7A, and the problem did not go.
I messages are seen around the forums and the internet about people that have this problem with a lot of video cards, and have posted some suggestions to get it working but Ive tried them all and it has not helped me, and everyone has yet.
If good advice, let me know . I do not care if it works fine for you . I have a solution not frikin Sorry, can not help, or Do your answers suck !
PLEASE HELP. Im about crazy with this.
Re:Yep, tried that too. No luck.
I have tested the amount of time between power down and power on. If I turn the PC off and leave it for 5 minutes it will power on just fine. If I leave it 1, 2, 3, or 4 minutes it will not initalize the video and give the 1 long beep and 2 short beeps. So, I think I can live with that for now, until I can get some more funds and test it with a different card.
Thanks for the suggestions….
Re:Have you tried just hitting the reset button a couple of times , instead of powering down and removing card?
Re:Nope, been there, did that…. Doesn't work either way. I did notice that if I unplug the machine OVERNIGHT (like 12 hours or more) the PC will boot just fine.
Unplug for a few minutes and nothing, you still have to remove the card and reseat it.
BTW, I have been building PC's for 15 years now, and this is the only problem that has really kicked me in the a@@ !! I've got a VisionTech GF2 GTS 64Meg I will try on Monday (have to pull it out of a production PC to try it). If it worksd, I was the 32Meg version of the same card where I bought this one, I'll just get them to swap it out.
Re:not to beat a dead horse but….make sure the card is eated properly. and after you seat the card try NOT screwing it to the case, try just seating it in very good and let it hang there(shouldnt really hang but you get what i mean) i had a problem with windows not detecting my SBL card on bootup and come to find out that when i screwed it to the case it would slide out by like 1/32 of an inch! and it was enough to make it not work.
good luck
guy
Re:I have Stepped up the IO Voltage up to 3.7 (I tried each step). I HAVE Not tried a new Video card, Limited funds, Buy will try a VisionTech GeForce 2 GTS 64MB on Monday.
Replacing the mobo is not an option – again limited funds.
I know Abit KT7A was removed from the approved list, but ASUS was removed at one point and it's back on there again…so, I'm thinking ABIT may be in the process of writing a new BIOS to adress this issue – but I could not find anythign on thier website, but I mat call ABIT directly and ask them.
Thanks for the sugestions….and if you have any other ideas PLEASe let me know….
Re:Have you tried raising the I/O voltage to 3.4V?
Re:The Abit KT7A has had numerous problems and has been taken off the list of AMD's recommended motherboards. If it's possible, get a different motherboard. If not, try a different video card.
Re:Just to clarify, you have tried another video card and the problem remained or is it happening only with the 7700?
