During Christmas I got a new comp setup, I peiced together myself
Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe Athlon XP 2800 977 503 mobo
AMD Kingston PC2700 33MHz valuram 512mb
zalman 400w p/s
two HDDs, and 120 80gig
windows XP Professional SP1 (SP2 and recently)
Drivers bios and if with the CD in the motherboard
After a reboot, my ethernet pooped on me. I am positive it is not a router problem, as I have tried the system in three different locations acrossed town.
It not to renew or obtain an IP, and my network connections say limited connectivity / no connection.
Ive reformatted several times, no luck.
I have updated with new drivers, no. did luck.
I “Connection Wizard directly to modem, checking the BIOS disabled LAN (there are two LANs on the motherboard, and I have tried two different PCI NIC cards . SIGH!)
Im really crazy ot trying to determine this. Any help would be nice, as I have HL2 and . Well, it sucks because i cannot install the system) and my other 3 comps arent up to par for it.

Re:Your using Windows XP SP 2 right?
If you have a firewall installed (or XP SP2's firewall enabled) disable it. Then go to a command line (start run type cmd)
Type this in the black box.
netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt
and hit enter.
See if that works.

Have you bridged the connection somehow?

What I'm wondering now is if there's some warez or malware in the picture that we're not being told about… the other day I came across a guy whose roommate was having problems (computer sending huge amounts of data traffic to unknown places), and it eventually came out that his roommate was using (get this) warez'ed antivirus software

Re:What's the NIC's MAC addresses showing as, if you do ipconfig /all in a command-prompt box? It's the Physical Address line for each NIC.
Re:Ok I tried updating the BIOS to the latest version from the ASus web page, specifically under my motherboard, and no luck.
im still getting a choked connection that cant renew an ip off my router, though every other cmoputer in the house can, even off the same cabling.
Re:Try uninstalling tcp/ip completely from your computer.
in network connections, delete everything in there.
Go to add/remove progs, = windows setup
untick tcp/ip or internet protocols
apply.
restart.
go to add/remove progs, = windows setup

Yea, i've tried multiple cables, and i've tried just using crossover cables to connect to this laptop. no luck ):
im even using the cable right now to surf the net…. oi.

I've tried asus. Ive been waiting on a callback, for uhm, 2 weeks. \:
I will try updating the bios this evening.. That was one of the last things on my list to do. just havent got around to it.

Have you heard of knoppix? It is a linux based OS on a CD that you can boot straight from CD. Just as a test I would boot it and see if knoppix is able to talk to the NICs and start the network.

Just trying to stir it up a little here… have you tried upgrading the BIOS yet? I doubt that is the issue but you never know. Your system is pretty much the same as my own, I have the A7N8X (plain – no dual LAN) as well as an Athlon XP 2700+.
You said after 1 reboot… did it actually work and then crap out, or it never worked? The fact that you have tried 2 PCI cards and still no luck leads me to think that it is a software issue and not a hardware issue… do you have another computer or laptop to try the internet connection out on? Have you attempted to contact Asus regarding the issue?
