Q: I have a time-out people trying to get into my ftp .
any suggestions .
Best Answer: Try plugging your wired computer directly into the modem. (Eliminating the router for this test).
Try the Internet that way for a while and see if there is any improvement. If so, the problem is the router. If not, you might have a modem or wiring problem from your provider.
If the router, is it still under warranty? If so call and tell them what you did and the cause of the problem is the router. If out of warranty, time to spring for a new one.
Re:My linksys router forwards ports without any problems. I do not use passive though.
Re:Does your FTP software spoof IPs for PASSIVE MODE? for PASSIVE MODE you need to open up a port range…
This might help a little… it is no where near completness, but I will finish it one day

Re:isn't the mode of transfer determined by the ftp client itself?
Re:I have all other ports working (80 and mail ports)
ftp will work but it's extremely slow and enters "passive" mode which almost renders it useless… ![]()
Re:if you're forwarding ports, be sure you have SPI disabled. if SPI is enabled, it disables all port forwarding on the router.
