Q: New construction, drive was found by the XP install disk, but now no longer displayed in My Computer. PATA disk, connection is good, ports enabled in the BIOS. Tried different cables. Any ideas?

Re:I'd try it in another PC on the off chance it's bad.
Could also try another IDE channel in case it's bad
Also check the power connector to it. If neccessary hook up a case fan to the connector (or the HDD etc) to make sure it's actually supplying power.

Re:does it show up in device manager? if so, disconnect the drive, then disconnect it from the dm. reboot. then power down and reinstall the drive. see if reinstalling cleanly would help xp set it up correctly.
