Mac OS X 10.3 Panther boot problem [mac os x] [boot problem]

Q: On the basis of an inconsistent wife my iBook does not boot properly. It comes with a blue boot screen tells me to restart.

1) What would cause this?
2) How would I find out what could cause this? Is there a boot record or something?

I recently upgraded to OS X 10.3 through the archive and upgrade option, because the upgrade seemed to be difficult based on my readings .

Best Answer: I have burned Windows programs (.EXE) to my Mac desktop and then transfered to a USB stick to be downloaded to a Windows machine and everything has worked out, If you can view the .DMG file on the XP PC you should be able to burn to a CD and mount it in OSX….

Re:I upgraded from OS X 10.2 (Jaguar).

I did the apple/control + v boot thing… Looked a lot like Dos/Linux boot.

The problem didn't happen this time. It booted straight into the desktop. I presume I was supposed to see where it stopped/crashed?

Verbosified? What is verbosified?

Edit:

Time #2 it froze leaving the dos like boot window and entering the OS (plain blue background).

Time #3 I didn't run the boot window thing, the system asked me to reboot when it hit the firewall or network file system?

Time #4 worked ok.

I think if you hold v (or option v) the boot process should be verbosified.

command + v, i think

Command is what I meant. I only reboot a couple of times per year, and rarely have to think of what that button is called :P

Re:did u upgrade from jaguar? does it happen all the time? do u have os 9 also? did u try booting from OS 9? try holiding option button when loading and it gives you the choice of OS.
OS X logs the crashes including all the program crashes, i do not remember where though. :(
