Re:guy: Change the thread title! It's not in the least bit accurate.
Unless you really, REALLY like MJPEG.
Re:/me puts down the knife
it's no big deal
Re:MJPEG encoding in hardware has not been a sellable feature for a long time since it is easily done in software so it's no suprise they aren't going to spend money to get it working in W2K when the 'feature' will not be in new hardware they can make money from. It's kind of sad they announce this so late in the game when W2K is about to become obsolete and claim it is impossible. No, it is impossible for Matrox's inept engineers. They are doomed.
Re:yeah, the title's misleading!
Re:Bah change your title.
Re:For those that can`t be bothered to go to the link, here you go,
<< To our Marvel G-200, Marvel G-400 Marvel, and RR-G customers:
We regret to inform you that Matrox is cancelling all MJPEG support under Win2K. Although this product was only intended for use under Windows 98, we did decide to take on the challenging task of supporting Hardware MJPEG under Win2K.
After months of development work, we have come to the conclusion that it will not be possible to offer any stable support for MJPEG under Win 2K due to the complexity of the MJPEG format and the OS itself, and thus we have abandoned the effort. Matrox will provide a suite of display drivers and video tools supporting TV tuning, 2D, 3D,
DualHead and DVD.
The capture portion for Windows2000 video tools will be the following:
- Marvel G400 will have YUY2 and RGB capabilities.
- RRG and Marvel G200 will have RGB capabilities.
The capture and editing portion will be accessed by 3rd party applications such as Ulead MSpro and Video Studio, however Matrox will not provide technical support for these applications.
As always, clients are more than welcome to post any problems they may have with our vidcap driver and have their fellow clients help them.
Due to the accesibility of YUY2, clients can now capture in Mpeg and vcd format directly which removed the need to convert mjpeg files into mpeg format.
In order to finalize RGB and YUY2 stability with third party video applications, this may take upto 3 weeks for the driver release.
Please note that the eTV series of products are not affected by this decision.

So did you read your link. or just posted it? ![]()
Re:guy, change the title….it's misleading
Re:guy. I was responding to the title of 'THIS' thread
Re:Wow, talk about jumping the gun. Matrox is only cuting out MJPEG support nothing else. From what I have read they will be replacing it with YUV2 and RGB capture support. As someone who has used the affected products YUV2 is a good move. It will let their users use SOFTWARE based MJPEG such as PicVIDEO MJPEG which allows for more options then the hardware that they have.

Re:guy
That's exactly what it says. It does NOT say that they will no longer have Win2K drivers for their products, that move would be suicidal.

Re:My PIII960 can do software MJPEG with like 20% CPU utilization. I'd rather have a hardware encoder but it's really not the end of the world. Plus, MJPEG is lossy and creates big files; and when you compress it into another lossy format like divx or MPEG1, it gets even worse.
Re:good thing i dont own a matrox card…sheesh…
Re:Not a big deal. Hopefully the rest of their driver support will continue to offer the best 2D solution out there.
Re:I might be reading it incorrectly but all I am reading is that they are discontinuing MJPEG development in Win2000. Not 'ALL win200 drivers' as the title of this thread MJPEG is not the 'best' standard out there anyway, so it isnt actually 'as bad' as most people think. I am not defending for Matrox. As a matter of fact, I never own a Matrox video card.
Re:Matrox is gaining more market share each passing day.
Re:thats messed up, i dont have one, but would be mad…they should at least give out the source to select companies who are willing to continue developing.
