The HD is a Maxtor DiamondMax 11 drive, I read it is compatible with NF3/NF4 and her apart from the HDs that were problems.
Thanks,

* edit *
Id like to add that my bios is not one to read, but now it reads, but Windows does not. (only in safe mode does)
Best Answer: Try connecting them to a different computer, also try different connection cables to make sure the cables arent faulty. If those two do not work sorry to say but your drives probably got toasted when your "computer died".
Re:I had a feeling that the problem lies in the SATA controller or the drivers itself,so I deleted the SI311r and R drivers from the windows\drivers folder.I also found that I had the 3112r in that folder as well and I deleted it.Now I can boot into window with the SATA drive but its slow,I will continue to see what the problem is but as long as I can detect it I know its a software problem.
Maxtor said I can send it for RMA but I'd rather wait it out as the drive seems to be working fine.
*edit*
So far so good,I just played soem Doom3 and it ran ultra smooth(max settings) a bit smoother than my IDE drives,I also tested it with HDtach and it gives me 133mb which is decent,my ATA133 IDE drive give me 119MB and 96MB and 116mb.

my guess is your prob is you installed the nvidia nforce drivers
download latest XP ServicePak 2, slipstream into XP CD, reinstall O/S fresh, allow only MS drivers to install, do not install anything nvidia into your PC other than video
Do not rollback drivers, do not update drivers, do not uninstall NV drivers, do not repair install.
Start fresh
Use SATA port 1 only for O/S HDD
Never enable nvidia active armour
The above relates to all NF4 IDE/SATA probs, the following is as relates to Maxtor:

Since I have seen this problem in numerous places indicating blame on XXX manufacturer because of the Maxtor SATA issue, I thought this information could help those in trouble. Keep in mind I have owned a Maxtor Diamond 10 250 and 300 for several months. During this time of ownership I could not get them to work reliably outside of DFI nforce2 mbs with the Silicon 3114 controllers.
The problems ranged from a disconnect in a blue moon, cannot be detected, to a disconnect every reset on different motherboards. Everything was golden after the firmware update .
You will need to contact Maxtor for the firmware so that if anything goes wrong you can still be under warranty. Ask for 2nd level support for Maxtor and inquire about the BANC1E00 firmware.
You can also verify your current firmware by using the maxtor diagnostic tool. The problematic firmware with BANC1980 or BANC19J0.
Also please keep in mind a RMA on the HD may be necessary because both my friend and I could not get the firmware to recognize the drive on the onboard SATA controller.
Depending on the SATA Contoller it may not be recognized by the firmware flash. I experienced this problem via a onboad Si3114 controller and a Abit 865PE chipset. I had access to a Maxtor SATA controller from work that detected successfully so please keep this in mind if you receive a ?drive not detected? by the firmware utility.
Below you will find the email that I received from Maxtor.

Unzip then please rename this file extension to
*.exe and then double click. This will create a bootable floppy that
you can use to update the firmware on your drives. (Note: This update
has only been tested on standard SATA controllers. This may not work
on SATA Raid controllers!)
1. Boot to the floppy it will load a program called "dload".
2. Once you are in this program after a few minutes you will see a menu.
3. At this point all you have to do is hit enter on the default selection in
that menu which is "Download all code (Disk & Boot)".
4. It then goes out and searches for the drive and updates the firmware on
it. It may say tht is is MISMATCHED—please continue.
5. Once this process is finished it will prompt you to hit any other key to
exit.
6. Do so. This will leave you at an Re:\ prompt.
7. Type in "dload" at the prompt. Once it scans the drives look in the
upper left hand corner of the screen and you will see the new firmware code
of "BANC1E00".If this is what it reads the update was successful and you
can power down the machine and install the next drive.
8. Repeat this process until all of the drives have been updated.

And jumper your drive as SATA 1 – just do it, dont think about it.
BA firmware is not compatible with my hard drive those are for 300GB drives mine is a 400GB and it uses HD firmware which the tech told me was the latest they have.
I don't have nForce IDE drivers installed,I know how bad they are and I won't go near them lol.
I use 3 IDE drives and 1 SATA drive,I boot from PATA not SATA,sorry if I didn't mention this earlier.
I also tried to jumper the drive but the system wouldn't even post when I tried.
I just finished running powmax as well and it froze at detection,no other HD's were on just the SATA,I will try a fresh install later on that should work…
I'm still looking for a way to get drivers for SATA controller without a fresh install …bit if I can't I'll have to do a fresh install
I hate fresh installs.

Re:I've seen several threads on my problem, unfortunately they don't solve my problem.I have a thread on this at DFIstreet as well.
Sometimes Safemode doesn't detect the drive and hangs too,I'm getting a floppy drive and testing powmax to see if the drive is faulty.
I've tried running services.msc I can't find the culprit,and I can't remove vital windows files.
I've spoken with a maxtor tech and they tell me my firmware is already the latest…
Is there a way to update SATA drivers in windows? that may be the issue.
Re:If it is a problem with DFi or nVidia, try updating your MoBo's firmware.

Re:There is a known problem of incompatability between nFORCE4 and Maxtor HDDS. This is not the first case of a device being incompatable with NFORCE 4, a while back there was an issue of X-Fi and Audigy sound cards not working with nvidia chipsets. In this case, I would not blame Maxtor, nvidia is most likely the culpret here.
Re:dfi-street.com
'Lots' of people have had trouble with DFi v Maxtor drives. I for one didn't, but check over there. Try going back to the old BIOS maybe?
Just noticed your edit. If safe mode does see it, then it would seem that it's clearly something that's starting up that is interfering with it. Maybe try starting up services etc once in safe mode to see if one causes the drive to vanish? Run services.msc for that.
Re:I guess I will just have to sell this crap
All seagates from now on.
Re:Sorry mate, can't really help you there?… I must be one of the lucky few who never have problems with new HDD's.
Have you tried checking that it's plugged in properly? Maybe it's just coming and going cuase of a bad physical connection…

Is the HDD a SATA2, and the MoBo a standard SATA??? If so, you might need to change a jumper on the drive, to force it to operate as SATA. I dont know which jumper to change on a maxtor, but I know both my WD's have it written on the sticker.

Yes the HDD is an SATA2 and the mobo is SATA2 as well.I will try to force SATA1 thanks.
The drive is setup correctly and I'm using latest BIOS.
I reinstalled the logitech drivers and the drive was working fine,I uninstalled it again and will leave it uninstalled for a week and see what happens
Re:Originally posted by: guy
I'm afraid thats not possible, but I do plan on getting the Seagate 750GB in the future.
I have resolved the problem,I used system restore and its working again…I think my Logitech G15 drivers had issues with the drive or the last 2 windows upgrades…I restored it to a point where I hadn't installed the updates or the G15 drivers.
I will try to install the XP updates and then the G15 drivers again to see which is the culprit.
Funny, one of my users had a similar issue with his IDE DVD burner and I did a system restore to a point before he installed his logitech wireless KB and mouse and that fixed the problem.

Re:Have you tried going into BIOS and making sure drive is being setup properly ?
Then do you have the latest & greatest BIOS version ?
Re:This problem has popped up again I removed the updates that were causing trouble. It seems that it fails to load every few days…I even tried turning NCQ off…
Any ideas guys?

gotta love those updates :disgust:
haha you said it buddy lol
M$ thinks it for our own good I guess…
Re:gotta love those updates :disgust:
Re:It turns out the problem was the windows updates…they in some way inferfered with the drive causing it not to work in XP.
Re:Originally posted by: guy
Return it and get a WD or Seagate instead.

hi Vlad..
I really have the same problem with you, i have DFI NF3 250-AL with Seagate 500GB SATA II, i have set the jumper to Sata I, but system remains hanging on loading windows.. I try to install the seagate to my brother’s ABIT KN8 Ultra which is also an nforce3 mobo, & guess what, bsod & windows won’t start, & its getting worse when i took off the seagate drive, the problem remain persist on my brother’s system.. crap!! tried reset the mobo but won’t work…
have you managed to solve this problem?
