Maybe Cache continuous reboot [last nite] [safe mode]

Q: OK, a machine with XP Pro
I. Now everything is fine for a year or so. Now , I was using it and all of a sudden it just turned off. Well when I try to put it just gets to the XP Pro screen, then reboot. I cannot get in or something. It just keeps rebooting and rebooting. Any ideas, I have no idea and I need to get this machine fixed. Thanks

Re:Well, you can try that. The "R" option is for Recovery Console.

To repair the installation, hit F3 or whatever as if you want to install, and it will then detect your existing installation and ask if you want to repair it. That's the option you want.

Edit: Oh, didnt read the whole post. Just reformat dude. A full year out of a single format is way better than you should be expecting. I reformat every 3 months for optimal performance.

This is really *not* necessary with an NT-kernel based OS, unless you don't take care of it and install lots of crap/spyware/adware/viruses/beta drivers on your machine (Win9x is a different story; it requires much more careful maintainence, and still can reach a point where you almost have to reinstall). Of course, if you never defrag or run spyware cleaners, or check to make sure you're not running tons of useless crap in the background, yes, your system's performance will tank after 6 months.

If i reformat, wont all the files be erased? How do i reformat?

yeah. you loose all of your files. that's why you were inspired a year ago to install hard drives specifically for storing documents and movies… separate from your boot drive for this specific purpose… nm ;)

Re:XP instead of BSODing just randomly restarts. Two things you can try. First, check your system event logs to see what exactly is the chokepoint, and then hit the system properties: environmental variables and uncheck the restart on crash box or whatever its called. See if that isnt of any help.

Good Luck,
