Microsoft Office Outlook Express blew it [express tools] [office 97]

Q: I have Office 1997 installed on my computer, running xp pro. Well made, by default Outlook email thing is so I switched. Then I deleted because I had used work and thats all I needed to. Well, in the Start Menu Outlook Express was not there, went and it was not standard, so I made the default again, and when I pressed OK in the Outlook they went back to no default. So I removed it in Add / Remove Programs and then reinstall. It is now standard and everything but when I go in the start menu properties even recognize Outlook Express e-mail on the toolbar. So why is it doing? What should I do to get back to work it? I want Outlook Express icon in my start menu and be recognized by XP as my email service thing. Thanks

Best Answer: Well, first of all, stop assuming Microsoft has it in for you, and only you, and is trying to force you to buy something your computer won't handle. This particular error code appears in a lot of areas. You probably have a corrupted download patch, and therefore have some registry errors. You could start by cleaning the registry and see if that doesn't fix it. You can also safely uninstall the latest patches then download them again, if you stop complaining long enough. Use Microsoft's Live OneCare Cleanup Scanner to safely and quickly clean the registry and reset the System Restore points.

If that doesn't fix it, then click on Start, Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and the Show updates box at the top. When the list loads, find the latest Windows updates and click to remove them. After they are removed, close the Control Panel and restart the computer. Then go back to the Windows Update site and download them again.

Re:yeh i do that but it doesn't have anything for the email. it's just blank

Re:Right click on the Start button and go to Properties.

Go to the Start Menu tab and click customize under the Start Menu radio selection.

Under Show on Start Menu, check the E-mail entry.
