Q: I use Win98SE with IE6.0. Yet a few weeks ago, I went into the Internet Options in Control Panel and set my history to 0 days. Today I decided to make this change to five days, and went to the options again. Lo and behold, my General tab is gone! It starts with the Security tab, and General never existed. All other tabs show only General, where can I start to change, temp Internet files, and a few settings.
During the last few weeks I have not installed any new programs at all, not changed any major settings, do not be fooled with regedit, have not downloaded anything with viruses or the like, not something done at all. Its a comp I use at work, and do nothing but work. I do not even surf the net that often.
I m not sure if this was done in the past few weeks, and was thinking of doing a scanreg. Does anybody know of this problem and how to fix it? Or what to try?
Best Answer: Your on a corporate network? Possible that it has been removed with a Group policy.

Re:some webbsites manage to lock your homepage so they might also be able to remove the general tab to stop you from changing it.

I did a scanreg /restore from a backup of yesterday, and this solved the problem and brought back the tab. Anybody know why this would happen, though?
