Q: This is weird .
My mobo (MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum) to the powers immediately when I plug it in.
I my case (Cooler Master Stacker) and reset switch wires to the mobo and noticed nothing happens when I connected to either the power or reset buds. I also get no LED lights.
Now when I remove all the wires between the law of the mobo the same effect. The mobo and just powers itself off when I pull in or plug.
What would lead to ?!?!?!
Doesnt short the switch pins engauge food? If the switch pins are open, it would mean that there may be a short anywhere else on the mobo cause these symptoms?
Best Answer: luck was indeed on your side rather than poor judgement
it was the psu (power supply unit ) doing its job
it detected a power fluctuation and stopped it in its tracks
you could have easly damaged the motherboard/hard disks/ memory/cpu
a lesson learned eh
i hope this helps

Re:Thx for the replies!
I have cleared the CMOS several times and even tried another CMOS battery. No changes. I might add, however, that the RAM for my system is just sitting at the Fed EX facility here in Denver (supposed to receive tomorrow) so I am just toying with this system RAM-less. It won?t even POST yet, but I thought it was odd that the power switch doesn?t function even without the RAM.
Btw-I am not using a 2nd power supply.
So, if the BIOS is set to power on when plugged in by default, then everyone with this board would have to edit the BIOS setting to use their case switch?

Re:Are you using a second power supply with your dual-PSU CMStacker? My drive array PSU (Antec TruePower 430) powers up as soon as I plug it in if the mobo PSU (Antec SmartPower 400) isn't also plugged in. It cuts off as soon as I plug in the main PSU even if I don't boot. It's weird! I'm sure it's related to the PSU adapter thing it comes with for powering on both PSUs with one switch but as long as I plug in the main PSU first it doesn't happen. And also check the power-on state setting in the BIOS (If you can get back there) so the board doesn't power up after a power failure (Unless you want it to).

Re:Try clearing the CMOS, reboot and make sure the BIOS setting for "start up after power loss" is set to OFF. AFAIC, that setting should always be set to off but there are rare occasions where setting that to "prior condition" may be needed.

Re:Hi, I have seen that happen on at least two different Mother Boards. As long as it boots up OK my guess is that there is no problem. Luck, Jim

Re:I've seen that happen when the clear CMOS jumper was in the wrong position, and I've also seen it when the CPU is not seated correctly, or not installed at all.
