Must be set to a CDRW master or slave? [master and slave] [cdrw]

Q: I want a and cdrom on secondary IDE cable. What should be set to ?

Best Answer: They can should be on master if they are on separate cables. I would set one as master, one as slave if they are on the same cable. They could however also both be set to "cable select" which means that the position on the cable would determine the . Off hand, I forget if the first one on the cable away from the mobo is the master or the slave.

Re:I have my DVD on the secondary master and my on the secondary slave. I don't have any issues at all with burning discs or burning while I'm listening to CDs or playing DVD movies.

I really don't think it matters where you put them, I just like to keep my rig tidy by separating the optical drives from the HDs.

Re:dont put either of them on the same cable with the hard drive

that is just asking for slowness and problems

i always put the CD-RW as secondary master and any other kind of cd-rom drive or dvd drive as secondary slave

Re:Most people and manufacturters will tell you secondary master. Where you then put your CD-ROM is more contentious.

Re:Some real smart kats have said your burner should be 'Master' and preferably on a different ide cable than your harddrive.

Not me! I'm not smart.

Re:It doesnt really matter. Make sure your jumpers are correct and your set to go. For less confusion just set them both to Cable select and you can swap them anytime.
