My God! The best upgrade I ever made! [globalwin tak 68] [tak68]

Q: man! I just dumped the GlobalWin WBK-38 from my T-bird 1.2 GHz rigging case open and swapped in a GlobalWin TAK-68 . Holy Cow! night and day difference! as the difference between a gentle breeze and a hurricane!

gosh I had not realized how unbearably noisy 7K delta that was until I used this . for a good cooling performance while common sense, I would recommend the !

:)

Re:Ditto…the alpha 8045 is a great heatsink. Cools very well with a low rpm fan. I have 5 sunon fans in my case. 3 are higher output 43 cmf ones, and 2 are 21cmf or so models (not sure exactly). But the system is in a sturdy, well constructed case which also helps to cut down on noise.

I'll also be doing a 12v/7v fanbus soon to control sound even more.

Re:I just have a ystech fan on the wbk38 it's an excellent combo for performance/sound. Just don't blame the wbk38's problem on the fan, it's an excellent heatsink if you put the right fan on it.

Re:Presumably he sold the AMD system, reducing his total expenditure on the P4 rig. But if you have a loud AMD system and you like it other than the noise, then by all means pick up an Alpha PAL8045 and a 2500rpm fan. Heck, or an 1800rpm fan :D

That's not meant as a dis on your P4 system, glad you're enjoying it. :)

<< yeah but your upgrade probably cost 20x more! >>

It's ignorance like that that pisses me off sometimes. People with embedded stereotypes in their minds that they never check to verify or only check once in a blue moon. Check out the pricing on P4 1.6ghz chips, they're cheaper than you think! >>

Um, you think saying that a CPU+Motherboard +Case is 20X as much as a 30 dollar heatsink is a stereotype? Please, tell me where I can upgrade my system to a northwood for only 30 dollars and I'll say that comment was stereotipical.

Re:<< Actually my best upgarde is dumping my loud-ass AMD system and upgrading to a Northwood.

Night and day difference is going from a 7200+ rpm fan to a 2500rpm fan.
The best part is being able to OC the 1.6 to 2.4 with ZERO extra cooling and case closed. >>

Re:<< 36dBA is quiet for you??? just how loud was the previous fan then?

I just ordered GC68 from SVC… I'm eagerly waiting.. 28dBA and same CFM as your fan…:)

cost? mere $15 shipped. >>

The GC68 is quiet compared to many HSF combos out there. It performs well at stock speeds. The only thing less than good I have to say about it is that it was a bit tricky getting it on. The HS kept wanting to ride up on the plastic ridge beside the processor. That made the HSF a little tilted. When I moved it down so it would be level, the ASII I put on must have been shifted off a bit so I was getting poor numbers. I tried the install three times before I got it on correctly. Still, I don't think it can be beat for around $15 shipped. Just keep an eye out on the plastic lip you have to avoid, and it isn't that difficult.

Re:yes same here I can barely hear over this damn delta fan!
