My sound card is deceased or something . [cpu overclocking] [system failure]

Q: I happen just after an error with BF2 startup.

I restart the computer it said .

due to .”

Now . I never overclock my system because I have no knowledge about how to do and I fear I may damage the hard CPU.

So I in the BIOS setup screen thing.

So now start than normal [/ list] I see my sound is not working.

I have SoundMAX Integrated Audio.

Re:It looks like your immediate problem is that the sound max drivers are corrupted. The repair for this is to remove the existing drivers in Device manager and reboot . Windows should redetect soundmax and reinstall drivers for it.

I see many icons in the system tray. Each of these can be programs running in the background , or worse yet Malware. This can be the reason (no machine resources left) for the soundmax corruption. See http://www.theflyingpenguin.com/penguin_blog.shtml#spyware-removal for many tips for Malware removal.

By all means if someone more knowledgable is avaliable, go over this with them before you make changes as there are many pitfalls. If possible, let them do it and observe.

Hope this helps,
Jim

Re:Scan for viruses and spyware. It may not be the problem, but I recently ran into some worms that my Norton AV did not find. Fortunately for me, they were not on my machine, but I found them on three freinds' machines by slaving their drives to my known clean system using a free AV from Avast.com (http://www.avast.com).

You can d/l the free version of their program, here (http://www.avast.com/eng/down_home.html). They allow you to use it without registering it for 18 days. If you register, it's good for 14 months, and they say you are welcome to d/l and register it again after that.

If (I hope!) you have another AV, during the installation, check the option not to install the part that guards your email because it will probably conflict with the other AV prog. After installing it, get the updates, set it for a deep scan at max strength, and run it.

No guarantees, but I know it found and fixed problems on the other machines. After I ran it on my system, I uninstalled it, but I kept the setup program so i can use it again, later, if necessary.

Re:Well um if nothing works, I'm going to ask my Dad about it.

He knows more about computers than me, and I did all that I can.

Though I hope the soundcard didn't get damaged or something..

Thanks for the help anyway. :)

Re:I'm going to try and reinstall the drivers for the audio card with the drivers from asus.com

And probably a few other things too..I haven't touched my motherboard since I got it, nd the BIOS is from 2003.

Re:What is your CPU and motherboard?

Look for help with this in the support section of the mobo manufacturer's site.

If your hardware is OK, but you can't find the problem, you may eventually have to re-install Windows from the ground up. :(

Re:Oh yes.

That message pops up when I right-click the SoundMAX icon in the task tray, then select "Volume"

Re:Well I didn't really know the default speeds..

So I just set it to the computer's default.

Also do you think does this will work?
I tried adding hardware, but its not there.

But I didn't really find anything related to sound in the BIOS setup.

Re:If your speed settings changed or became corrupted, it's possible that other settings did, too.Check the onboard sound settings in your BIOS. While you're at it, go through the rest of the settings, too.

Good luck. :)
