Need help killing annoyware / spyware / whatever ~ ~ Temüjin – Pls read the moderator post in this thread. [partition] [gamble online]

Q: Hi. Stupid me clicked on an unidentified executable file that installs did on my WinME . It is that porn international calling program that claims you pay only a “small” fee to a certain number. I removed and immediately removed and scanned my system with adaware 5.62. However, despite the removal of the “online gambling” icon and everything associated with “download-fo” including all directories, still jumps on boat with a window that says “HTML Files” and automatically launch my browser and get some ads.

I have gone through the whole registry, startup folder, win.ini, system.ini, autoexec.bat and config.sys and all I can think of to get rid of. I suspect it is embedded in a dll of the OS or something. The POPs only after startup and logon to Windows. Store-alt-del CNT when the window reveals winoldap “so its rather difficult trying to locate the exact file and delete it.

Does locate anyone knows how to remove this beast? Thank you.

Yup, I have updated it to the lastest which is 02/02/2002. I was actually hoping to get rid of this annoyance without a reformat.

Somethings I found out about this:
a) it starts BEFORE everything in the startup tab. Filemon starts too late to find out the exact filename. So it's hidden in win.ini or system.ini
b) It uses a file in the Netscape folder called "xppref32.dll"
c) Deleting Netscape and all subfolders prevents the browser from popping up but the html file still extracts.

This is just annoying… it just like accidentally clicking on "Bonzi Buddy".
