Q: Hello all, just upgraded my Mandrake machine
I 9.0 to 9.1. One of the great opportunities that I saw in OS 9.1 was cross printer sharing. I do not have a way to do this yet.
Can anyone tell me how to share my Canon i850 was on my Win XP Pro machine (it is already shared with other Windows machines) with my Mandrake system?
My other question is what sound driver I should use since one picked it up does not work. Sound worked for my upgrade. I use the onboard sound of my ECS K7S5A. It detects the card as “SiS7012 PCI Audio Accelerator”. The default driver, however, is an Intel one.
Thanks,
Swan
Re:It's still not working. I think part of the problem is that it doesn't have the driver for the printer. I'm going to Canon's site now to see if I can find one.
Re:When running the printer configuration in the Control Center, try entering the IP address of the workstation as opposed to the name, unless you enter the hostname/ip in /etc/hosts.
Re:Nevermind, it still won't auto detect. I have two printers shared, one a parallel port on a 98 SE machine and the other a USB one on my Win XP Pro machine. They share fine between other Windows computers. But Mandrake still won't grab them. Any ideas?
Re:Excellent! I didn't know it would just auto detect like that.
Thanks!
Re:Can't help you on the sound, MDK is pretty good at detecting/using the correct hardware.
But, if you share the printer in XP Pro (Right Click on the printer icon and click "Sharing"). When using the printing applet in the Mandrake Control Panel, just have Mandrake Auto-Detect the Network printers and if there is mroe than one, just select the correct one, if only one is detected and only one is on your network, BINGO. There you go.
This i the one area where MDK 9.1 REALLY works well. Can't say the same thing for the networking setup.
