Need Walkthrough for XP Pro/W98SE Network [niether] [idiot proof]

Q: I also will see each system. Does anyone know a decent set of instructions? :)

Re:yes, unless you set them statically.

can you ping them or access them via UNC path name?

ping xx.xx.xx.xx (fill in IP address info of another machine
ping name (replace name with the name of another machine

click start\run and type \\xx.xx.xx.xx (fill in ip address of another machine)
click start\run and type \\name (fill in the name of another machine)

see which of these work/dont work

Would I be using the IP assigned by my linksys router?

Re:Ok guys, I still can't see my other system. I am really ignorant at this, so any help would ge great!! They are going through a Linksys router. Both have the same workgroup name (HOME). I ran the XP wizard, but no dice. :(

Re:enabling guest accounts on the win2k/xp machines always helps alot, especially if their isn't a DC involved.

Re:Go here, excellent site, for lots of help. You should find your answer.

Good luck !

Re:Can the machines ping each other?

Re:Its trial and error. The usual cause of not seeing each other is a firewall. Turn off zonealarm, norton internet security or the XP firewall and see if that helps. you can also try searching for the name of the other computer
