Q: If I state my WEP Siemens Speed Stream wireless router, I can on the internet from my laptop (Dell True Mobile card w / WinXP), but Im having trouble browsing the network. I can see the other computer, but when I click on a folder on that computer, it just hangs for about 10-15 minutes, and finally that folder.
It did not seem to do it without WEP enabled, so I assume it has something to do with it.
Can anyone think of a reason behind and how can I fix it?

Best Answer: If you getting a signal from your router that means your router is communicating with your pc. You can rule out your network card
Perhaps the cable modem is at fault
Check the ip address on the network card – if it reports an ip address starting with169 that means its a bad ip address
load up the router configuration page (usually http://192.168.1.1)
check to see if the router is getting a global IP address from the modem/cable modem.
If your using a cable modem make sure its docsis 2.0
If you have mac filtering check your settings to see if your router is not rejecting your mac address
If your using wep encryption make sure both keys match, its easier if you use a 64bit key because its less work for your browser and pages will load up faster

Well yeah, but I guess my point was that there must be some way to fix it, as it shouldn't be causing that.

I know that without WEP, there would often be some lag when trying to open a network folder, but certainly not this bad. There must be some kind of a solution?
