Network Router u0026 UPS Help! [network router] [thunder storm]

Q: Everytime there is a thunderstorm or something, my routers protected by a rack-mounted 3000 SmartUps loses a flash or get stoopid damaged.

I guess my question is not for the UPS to protect against overvoltage and what that comes through? Do I need another form of protection?

The routers are new, but Im new in the last 3 months . UPS seems to be no problem, but the flash card to be programmed, but we are just new router just to be safe .

Re:Ahh. There's an easy solution – Replace the Nortel routers with Cisco! OK, back reality, now.. That's really wierd, unless there's something wrong with the UPS or that the Nortel routers are so sensitive to power fluctuations that they go down during the transfer time from utility power to battery. If they are that sensitive there's really not much to do with 'em. Have tried a different UPS?

Re:Have you checked the UPS? Plugged something else into the exact same port and pulled the power? Is the outlet the UPS is plugged into wired correctly – Grounded, etc. Is your rack grounded? Try another UPS on a different outlet for your router and see if that fixes it.

You certainly shouldn't be getting a spike through the T1. Possible, but not probable.

I've seen a few people not realize that UPSes don't come with the battery connected nowadays. Power goes down and THUNK. There goes the server since nobody plugged in the battery.
