Q: I have a new Dell Latitude D600. When I connect to the network of the NIC LEDs (internal) light on, but I can not the machine but a DHCP to get IP address. If I set a static IP, the machine can access the network and everything works fine.
Ive have one of the exact same laptop and it can be an IP with DHCP to get fined. I called Dell and they were no help.
Any ideas?
Ive tried setting the speed and duplex settings, but thats not the problem.
Re:I had the same problem with my Dell 4600 desktop when I connected to a cable modem using the onboard NIC. On the Dell forum I was told that the onboards had an interface problem. I installed a network card, disabled the onboard in Windows, and everything is fine.
Re:Does the mac address of the wireless card show up in the wireless routers configation?

What about your hard wired connnection?
Those still all work fine, besides the Laptop that I need to use I can't use wired or LAN to VPN into work. Something really messed up my Lan drivers or some other config when i loaded up the Linksys 11g utility.

have you tried renewing the ip address?
Reinstalling the network card? (drivers)
Check if it is set to static. (this happens sometimes if you use hotspots or hotels)
Yes to all… for some reason, dhcp is not working properly on my laptop. I can't get a connection to the internet, and I can't even ping my wireless router.

Re:Oops… Sorry to say mine is actually a Compaq EVO N610c…. I guess that would change things a bit…
Re:Sorry, don't know what is wrong with yours. Dell shipped me laptop images and when I reimaged the laptop it worked.
Re:I'm having this same problem. I'm using Win 2K SP4. It is automatically populating with 192.168.167.1, and this is not the range it should get from my Wireless Router.
It was working fine before, but after I installed a linksys 54g wireless card, my internal LAN was messed up.
Any ideas? I need help ASAP if possible.
Re:What is your operating system?
Re:HAHA, you CALLED DELL? Having worked there, I can tell you they couldn't possibly be ANY help. Did you get India?
Re:What kind of a network are we talking about here? Is this your own personal home network or one at work or school? The reason I ask is that I live on campus at my university and they require us to register our NIC address with them. The DHCP server recognizes a valid NIC address and hands out the appropriate IP otherwise it does not. Just thought maybe you were in this situation.
