New MB / CPU / RAM problems now . [asus p4p800 motherboard] [asus p4p800]

Q: Ok, last night I get a P4 2.8c HT, motherboard and 2 sticks of 256MB Mushkin DDR400.

I in my old tower with a 330watt power supply, hook both my old HDDs, and my two CD-ROMs and my ATI Radeon 7200 64MB 3D Card.

I Boot from the Windows CD to delete the partition to create a new format you want to install my CD key appears to be junk, I got a message that it could not copy a file, then just could not find another file, even though it was on the CD. I started again from the beginning I was following errors in Windows XP managed to go through the installation then ok. but got an error for my video card. The computer would only within a few minutes to restart every time I did things. I have AIM installed if anyone can IM me my s / n guy in between, I will reboot. I managed to SP1a installed. most of the installed updates. Now one just as he tries to install. I have the drivers for the video card installed. the error went away, but its still rebooting on its own will on me. I have no idea whats going on. I can not update the chipset from the MB CD for some unknown reason it will not help anyone install.

we tried 2 different sticks of RAM got it to install. install actually worked. we went to update the BIOS using the ASUS MB CD it downloaded and we got a windows error message during that saying it failed to install successfully or whatever. so we popped in a win 98 boot disk, flashed the BIOS with the newest version from www.asus.com booted it up, it freezes after the 1st windows splash screen, we got in once and it restarted by itself with no warning after like 90 seconds….Have you tried bumping your memory voltage and relaxing the memory timings yet? Your symptoms are typical of an i865PE board that needs its memory voltage bumped and its memory timings relaxed, so before putting yourself through the RMA circus, why not give that a try. It's worked for many other folks :)

didn't work. Mailing the MB back later this week and i'm going to see if I can get the P4P800 Deluxe instead.

Filled out an RMA, sending it back monday. going to try to upgrade to the deluxe version.Did you try adjusting your memory voltage and timings? This is a trait of i865PE and i875P motherboards when used with low-latency memory modules, so I'd suggest trying the usual cure before giving up on it.

Re:Boost memory voltage to at least 2.7 volts and manually set its timings to something like 2.5-3-3-7. The procedure should be pretty similar to what I wrote up for the P4C800-Deluxe here (http://{$MySite}/messageview.cfm?catid=29&threadid=1071876&FTVAR_MSGDBTABLE=). Good luck, hope that helps :)

Re:tested my old power supply couple spots where it should be 12v it was 11.5v and 11.3v bought a new tower/power supply today 400watt antec power supply (wanted a new case anyways) we formatted tried installing again got same messages with a different win xp cd, tried 3 more cd-rom's still ran into 1 or 2 files that just wouldn't copy. (none of them were the same during any installs) tried a brand new HD still same file copy problem. and when the computer just restarts the bios resets itself. I've had several people stop to help me and we're leaning towards maybe the MB has issues..

sound like it might be the MB to anyone else?

and if it is will I just send it back to new egg and they send me a new one? kinda sucks that i've just lost 24 hours of my weekend due to this. we've formatted and re-installed I don't know how many times, I've only slept 4 hours since I got home from work yesterday. i'm just upset and tired and want a computer again! any comments?

Re:Does your old power supply have the extra square 4 pin needed for some P4 and amd mobo's? Does your mobo have this connector? It hooked up?

Re:http://www.memtest.org/
Give it a whirl. You will need a working computer to make a floppy for it, tho
