Q: Hello all,
Ive searched through the support forums, but could not find my problem so I apologize if this is a dupe.
I upgrade / build a new system for someone with the following specs:
Epox 8HDAI Pro MoBo
AMD Sempron 256MB AGP8X FX5200 400 DDR 2800
Crucial 512MB
PNY Vid Card
400W Power Supply
Optical and hard drives are the system requirements resused.
Assembled, started well, but I installed Windows updated everything, installed drivers, etc. Worked for about two days. Then it went up in flames stabbing the other morning and it would not post. After troubleshooting, RMAed the MoBo. Love the new yesterday. Do everything together, it started up fine, worked. Went out again this morning, will not post.
Went through the following:
Took the board of the case, tried it with just the processor, vid card and RAM. Nothing. No beeps, just sitting on the FF code. Tried another stick of RAM and video card. Nothing. Tried another power supply. Nothing. Installed the card processor and heat sink. Reset the CMOS. Nothing. Went through all these things for a one.
Only what I can figure out the board is bad weather. Now, if that is the case, fine, i will RMA, but my real concern is that there is something which the boards to go bad. Otherwise, why would it work one day, or two and then die?
Any help is greatly appreciated as this is driving me crazy.
Thanks.

Best Answer: well I had the same thing happening, Cd / DVD Would pretend it was burning, but left the disk blank. I could read both types. About this time my Language Translator quit functioning. I got an error message that MSJET35.DLL was corrupt or missing. So I went on line and googled it. Found out where to get DLL. Installed MSJET35.DLL into C:/windows/System/system 32 and everything worked. The explination of exactly MSJET35.DLL does is vague to me, but my buddy in Reno says often times Nortons thinks it is a virus and takes it out. Not sure but I have a backup of it cached on my zip drive. Google description is:
" msjet35.dll is the main component of the Microsoft Jet database engine which evaluates and carries out requests for data. The file handles reading and writing of the data for Microsoft Access databases. For nonĀnative data, then the file makes calls to either the ODBC Driver Manager DLL or one of the external installable ISAM DLLs." Dont know, but it worked for me! I am still learning so check it out first. A newbie.
Good luck."

Re:Just get a high quality (not saying you need a 650 mega watt power supply) power supply first.

Re:The power supply that came in the Apevia case… I believe it says Turbolink 420W on the side.
The other power supply I tried was one out of my case… I know it's 350W, not sure on the make.
Checked the power supply this afternoon with a volt meter and it was registering significantly low… as much as 30% on the voltages. After playing with it for a while it went up to within about a minus 5-10% window of what the voltages should be.
My current plan of attack is to get a new board, as well as a new power supply, unless anyone has any advice.
Thanks for the reply.

Re:Yes, the same power supply was being used.
In both cases, all the components were identical. Could the power supply be the culprit?
I did later try a different power supply, but I'm figuring by that point the board may have been fried.
The supply did have teh 20+4 connector while the board only had a 20-pin connector. From what I've found, this shouldn't be an issue, but who knows.
Maybe I'll just order a new power supply if I have to get a new board and see if that solves the problem.

Re:Was it the same power supply being used with both boards? When you get the next board I would use a different one and see what happens.
Or at least watch the voltages on it closely.
