Ninja – what position does it perform better? [vertical tower] [core temp]

Q: Does anyone know of links where cpu temp was measured using the ninja in the horizontal (desktop) position relative to the vertical (tower) orientation? Im trying to decide which case to get and the heat pipe efficiency befuddled.

OTOH me, if anyone here installed a ninja, you could experiment run Prime95 to do with your case and stand up on its side and your with SpeedFan Measure or MBM.

tnx.

Re:with mine i have the nexus pushing air towards the rear exhaust fan which is pulling air form the scythe. it works wonders

Re:In passive mode, the vertical mobo position is best- it was specifically designed for that orientation and purpose. With a fan, it doesn't matter… at least not enough to be worthy of consideration…

Re:what position makes her perform better?

Had a couple of particularly good rounds from behind this weekend, but it's hard to quantitively measure the performance.

Oh, you mean, ah, erm, yeah, I don't think it's going to matter much. Get a little bit of airflow from a silent 120mm (read Nexus, or Akasa Amber, or something undervolted etc.) and it'll be absolutely fine.

Re:it actually depends on whether or not you have a fan attached to it. in my case, i have a nexus attached to mine and my 4800 toledo idles at about 33C. with adda 1500rpm as rear exhaust. i've read a review somewhere where the scythe was tested with the motherboard in horizontal position and no airflow, temps hit up to 70's in an AMD system? i think. and the same system cooled down to about 30-40 with a fan attached. hope this helps

Re:Not really. The air around the heatsink would have very low pressure and I doubt the airflow will be great enough to cool the pipes.

Re:so i guess heatpipe cooling would work on the space station

Re:Same with my Freezer 64 Pro. I took it out of the case and had it on my motherboard tray and it was getting the same temperatures as when it's inside my Raidmax X-1.

Re:My Big Typhoon performed the same with the case on its side and upright. I'd imagine the Ninja would be a similar result.

Re:It's designed for use with the mobo in the vertical position, as in a tower case. Check the review at silentpcreview.com.

The heatpipes aren't the issue, but rather convective airflow thru the fins…

Re:i think that it really only matters w/ the airflow of the case. but in theory haveing a desktop case would make the fluid inside teh heatpipes settle down easier as they would not have to wick down…. i might try laying my P180 on its side for you but i have a Gigabyte 3dRocket on mine not a Ninja.
