Re:If you're not getting anything from the various man -k commands suggested here, make sure that the man page database has actually been built. The command to do so varies from system to system – makewhatis and mandb are possibilities. Doing a man apropos should give you some more details about the database.
Re:Generally you just want 'man -k blah' or 'apropose blah'. You can do 'locate man' though if you want.

try using the "info" command to go thru more advanced versions of help pages.
Re:you can search thru the man pages by adding the -k option like:
man -k ethernet
and will get a list of man pages with that keyword in it.
