Norton 2002 vs. 2005 anitvirus [norton antivirus 2002] [norton anitvirus 2002]

Q: I have running on my system but I noticed that Norton Internet Security 2005 came with my motherboard. I tried to use it, but for some reason the Live Update feature will not work with the 2005 version. Is this a problem worth troubleshooting, or should I just be satisfied with the (work) 2002 version I currently have installed?

Thanks,
J. J.

is norton av 2005 a worth upgrade from 2002? Not sure if it is too bloat or memory hog?How the heck are you still using 2002? You must have reinstalled your operating system once or twice, right?:P

My sub for 2003 is over in a few days, and I think my time with Norton has ended. Take a look at this thread. (http://{$MySite}/messageview.aspx?catid=33&threadid=1375461&enterthread=y) I've been using Kaspersky for a few days now and I like it.

win2k re-installed twice and had to install nav 2002 because I was too busy to upgrade new anti-virus.

On the other hand you can use the Free AntiVirus here: Assemble a Freeware Security suit for Internet Connection Protection. (http://www.ezlan.net/security.html)

It is considerd better than the NAV, and is lighter on the system.

Nortron is complete garbage and a total recourse hog.Click on the link in the post above yours and say that.:P

Re:Did you try getting the latest version of liveupdate off symantec's site? (http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/files/lu/lu.html)

Re:Well, that would explain it except for one thing. The 2002 version that I'm using, which does successfully run LiveUpdate, is also initially installed as a three month trial that requires resubscription annually.

Re:The copy that came with your mobo may only be a three month trial and from there you'll have to pay to resubscribe in order to get your Live Update definitions.

Re:Yes, I uninstalled both entries in the programs list before installing 2005. Due to the issues I was having with 2005, I uninstalled it (both entries) and reinstalled 2002.

Re:so 2002 isn't running on the system?
when you uninstalled 2002, did you uninstall liveupdate (separate entry in remove programs)?

Re:Yes, there would be a conflict. I uninstalled Antivirus 2002 completely before installing 2005.

I can't remember what the error said exactly. It basically tried to connect to Symantec's servers, then after about 5 seconds a window came up saying that it "could not connect to the server, check your network connection, etc, etc." I was able to access my LAN and the internet just fine, so I know that wasn't the problem.

Re:Do you think there is a conflict between having 2 liveupdate clients on the same system?
(any errors or anything?)
<- still using 2000
