Re:how long does it take to burn a CD when u have a 16x drive? i mean matter of mins?
why bother with scsi if it only takes 5misn to burn a CD.

how much faster can scsi be over the lite-on? >>
Being SCSI doesn't make a CDRW any faster… The 12/10 will be slower than the 16/10, if that's what you're asking. SCSI doesn't use your CPU, so it's much better for multitasking. (you could burn a CD while playing a game and not notice it)
If I was going SCSI, I'd get:
Adapter: Adaptec 29160 or Tekram DC390U3W
CD-rom: Plextor 40X ultrawide
burner: Plextor 12/10/32
Hard drive: 18GB Seagate X15 15000rpm

Re:right now i have a ESCALADE 6200raid card. there seems to be a problem with it being slow in lots of the benchmarks. i called them and said there is going to be a new firmware coming out soon. well see what happens =)

Re:ok lets see here
2 20GB ata-100 7200rpm HARD DRIVES $195
raid card $75
That right there is about same price as a 15000RPM scsi hard drive. then u still have to buy the scsi card
also u would have more HD space…
but yes a 7200rpm hard drive is lots faster than a 5400rpm hard drive
The New Agreements in Healthcare
Re:HELL YES
actually if u want to get lots fo speed do a IDE RAID. little slower than a 15000rpm scsi but HELLA cheaper.

Re:Ok well say i got with a 7200 RPM HD will I see that mcuh improvement over a 5400 RPM dirve which is what i am using now.
It would be alot cheaper to go to 7200 RPM and get
7200 RPM IBM 60 GPX 40 GIG 107 bux
PLEXTOR 16×10x40 CD-RW 164 BUX
Would i see that mcuh improvement over a Maxtor 5400 RPM and a Creative 8×4x32 CD-RW.?????
Re:but since u are gettng a HARD DRIVE as well its worht it for u i guess. i am using IDE raid which is good enouhg for me =)
Re:hehe i currently have a 8×4x32plextor. its ncie i guess
anyways u can get a 16×10x40 plextor for $164 at newegg. i know thats only about $35 difference in price but u dont have to buy a SCSI card and it should be just as fast if not faster using CD-Rs. (i know the scsi is faster using CD-RW). ![]()
Re:15K RPM drives are fairly small (18GB max, right?), and expensive.
Re:Plextor is a much more reliable and efficient brand from what I understand.
Re:im also thinking of getting a SCSI CD-WRITER. Then i saw i could get a lite-on 16×10x40 for $100 less than a 12×10x32 PLEXTOR SCSI drive.
how much faster can scsi be over the lite-on?
