Opinions on the Fake Factory Cinematic Mod for HL2 [opinons] [type music]

Q: Thinking about firing again while I wait for HL2 and Episode 2 Stalker. Looking for and feedback on the Fake Factory Cinematic Mod for HL2. It adds so-called high-res textures for everything, and then adds blockbuster kind of music for major mods. It also adds more realism to the weapons damage I think. I am a bit worried about getting one or two times with a shot to start again, but this is probably the least. :)

Anyone recommend? Everyone wants to say do not bother, its not worth it and the ruins of the original? Let me know. Thanks.

Re:I will have to give this a try also. Tried downloading it before, but it never completed.

Just looking at some of the screenshots scare me however. Im debating if I should try and dodge alex's poppin nipples.

Is it pretty easy to uninstall? And you can use the old Alex textures, right?

Re:It's great; I love the textures.
Also, ignore what FakeFactory says about resolutions lower than 1600X1200 using the lowest level mipmaps. I run 1280×960 and I do not see this occur on my 7950GT.

Re:Thanks. I think I'm going to try it………….

Now I just have to find someone to d/l it, Apoppin :)

Re:I liked it, some of the textures are kinda wonky-looking, but for the most part it enhances the experience. I don't like the music though; I'm only talking about the graphic enhancements.

By the way: If you have only 1GB of RAM, expect it to run somewhat choppily whenever textures are being swapped.

What "effort" ? — it isn't like you are paying for it or on dial-up

Not so fast, my man. There's like two people on the whole net still using dial up. Sounds like one is you, and the other is me. ;) And my time is money.

no wonder you bug everyone about game demos and mods …

–like i do :P

great service … i want to know also … if people say it is *awesome*, i will keep HL2 … if not, in the 'to be traded pile' ;)

consider it a 'bump'

Re:The version I played had some ridiculous bugs. Other than those few bugs, it's a great mod! If those bugs are fixed, I suggest playing the mod instead of the original game :D

Re:how do you get all the cinematic action, or is it just scripted? im gonna replay so i can find out :P

Re:fakefactory stuff is awful. High res doesn't mean good.

Re:well i haven't played it … but the *cure* for a 1-shot kill is "quicksave"

and QuickLoad ;)

TRY it …

. . . and report back and give your opinion, please …. :D

[--like me, stuck at 56K ... and who really didn't care for HL2 all that much anyway ... i have SO many other great games to play]

Re:Anyone else? I'm not making a stupid poll. :)

Re:You don't have to use the new skins. You can still use the high res old textures IIRC.

And it's up to 3.0 now (it was on the hl2files homepage, duh ;) )

HL2 Cinematic Mod v3.0 (http://halflife2.filefront.com/file/HalfLife_2_FakeFactorys_Cinematic_Mod_V30;69829)

Cinematic Mod Patch (3.00-3.05) (http://halflife2.filefront.com/file/HalfLife2_FakeFactorys_Cinematic_Mod_Patch;75477)

And just to let you know, you need to download the base source SDK (you get it through steam) from Steam too.

It would be a good idea to get the new versions since they use the new source engine (base source engine 2), (and I guess have better performance or higher resolutions textures?, I don't know).

And I think (minus the new Alyx textures) that the Cinematic mod is better then the original.

And OP, does your sig have to be so long?? (just wondering :P )

Re:It was better in it's earlier versions IMO — the newer versions (pretty much everything after version 3) add a bunch of rediculous looking skins (alyx in a bathrobe.. WTF?) In the earlier versions, all it changed was to make the textures higher resolution and add some music like in the file you linked. :(
