Q: I have a clean install of Win XP and now none of the other computers on the neteork can I access my computer anymore. They see it, but they are prompted for a password to log on and that I did not know what it is. I ran the Network Setup Wizard on all machines and printers and file sharing, and the guest account on my system. My system is XP-only system and the clean install of ME I upgrade to XP and had no problems like this. I have a problem like this a while ago and was hoping someone new how to solve this.
Thanks
Best Answer: 1. Click Start->Control Panel
2. Double click Network Connections
3. Right click "Local Area Connection" and click Properties
4. Uncheck File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
5. Click OK
6. Restart computer
After restarting, run Windows Update and install all Critical updates.

Re:The second link is great. It will probably be one of my absolute favorite sites from no on as it has so much usefull information. After reading some pages I found that Local Security Setings in control panel has an option to let everyone permitions to apply to anonymous users. This setting is disabled by default and I think when enabled it will alow everyone access iven if the Guest account is dissabled. I hope it is.
And thanks aggain.
Video Submit Wizard
Re:Got it working for now. I was set up with simple file sharing dissabled so I enabled simple file sharing. Then in the sharing ontion of SFS sharing was disabled so I enabled it with the enable without runing the wizard function. And with the folder at read only, other computers could access my files. Then I aggain disabled simple file sharing and now I have advanced sharing controls and other users can access my computer as well. Next I will try disabling the Guest account and then it should have the same settings as before the clean install of XP. Thanks for the link, is was helpfull in its ideas, do you know how to directly change the sharing level. I beleave and I am quite sure that the network wizard set the level to 3 or higher so other computers could not access mine and when I forced sharing under simple file sharing with read only access it set it to level 4 which was maintained when I disabled simple fire sharing and used adwanced file sharing. So if one can find out how to specificly change the computer sharing level then there will no longer be these problems.
Thanks

What You Need To Know About Network Marketing
Re:This does not work and I don't se why I need to add users as I share with "everybody" and my Guest account is on but I don't see any reason to have to enable it anyway. I just want to have simple file sharing. When I upgraded to XP from ME everything worked fine but why is XP so stuborn after the clean install. I have shared some folders. Also adding users is just a bad way to do it as I may have to ad hundreds of users as that how many user there may be on different networks I might be connected to. There just has to be a better way, anybody.
thanks

Re:Setup users on your XP machine with the same user/password combos that the other machines log with. MS's basic version of volume/share security on NT kernel OS's. You can also enable guest account in your user management console to "open up" the XP machine.
