P2P software is not working. Can anyone behind? [p2p programs] [information thanks]

Q: Hey guys. OK, I live in residence at a university and use their built-in networking for the Internet. Everything on the net works fine, except the file sharing/. Kazaa, WinMX, eDonkey name it, they either do not connect or unable to download anything. Im not behind a firewall. Does anyone know how I can test what is causing this? Or any idea why I do this problem? Let me know if you have more information. Thanks

Best Answer: there are some tools from www.videohelp.com

Re:I'd check with the comp dept,

University of alabama told resident's of thier dorms that if they found them filesharing they would cut their connection.

my friend had his connection cut, he called and they said that he'd been on kazaa (he had 2 months b4 the incident) they put it back on, but it's his last chance.

University of montevallo uses the firewall(iron curtain) to plck file sharing.

"the comunists are coming, the comunists are coming!"

Re:Yeah that's what I was thinking, but (I guess I should have mentioned this), some other people I know who live in residence here CAN use file sharing programs. So it's probably not that.

Re:Many universities block the ports the common p2p apps use because of bandwidth hogs and rampant piracy. Ask your computer dept. if they do block these ports.
