Q: I was messing with ClockGen (http://www.cpuid.org/clockgen.php) trying to OC my humble P4 2.53 for something a little higher, earlier today. The problem is that my motherboard (FIC VG31 http://www.fic.com.tw/product/motherboard/1stmainboard_detail.aspx?model_id=80) is not exactly supported. Knowing this, I chose the closest version to use on my motherboard, the CG-CY28346 D845GBV for Intel motherboards and D845EPT2. I amped the bells around 100MHz when suddenly my whole PC froze. If I reboot, nothing happened, no post, no beeps, no nothing. After testing everything on my PC, I found that one of my poles 512 died, I made it and everything worked fine. However, now my clock speed of 2.53 to 1.9. My FSB is locked in at 99.6mhz, my bus is the speed down to 398.5mhz. The question I have is, why? Why does my lower self bells? And more importantly, how the hell can I get them back. As I, my mobo / bios is not a real CPU clock speed of options, so I can not back to normal clock. Am I screwed or what? Any help would be much appreciated. D:
Heres some specs for reference:
CPU – P4 2.53GHz 533bus Northwood
RAM – 1×512mb PC2100
GFX – 9800XT 256MB
SND – Audigy 2 ZS
PSU – 250W Generic
MOBO – First International Computer VG31
Re:Yep, clocks stay the same no matter what my PC is doing. I already emailed FIC about it, sure i'll never get a response though. I'll try out sie's suggestion, perhaps i'll try putting another P4 in its place while i'm at it.
Re:there is really no fsb 100/133 option in the bios? and its an emachine, hmm. this is stupid but try taking the cpu out, then putting it back in.
Re:Its funny that you think I actually bought this mobo
Re:did u check the actual speed using cpuz? i have a fic skt a board and it did that one time and i played bf1942 and it ran the same from 2.167 to 1.300 ghz and it played the same idk what the problem next time get a mobo with good oc features
al most time for u to get new proc too
Re:Haha, come on, i'm not that much of a noob! I've done that multiple times, doesn't reset the clock speeds, only bios settings. :/ Its really bizzare. I found a bios update and used it, hoping there would be some clocking options, and luckily there were. I can bring up the FSB settings, but the problem is, it also raises the AGP/PCI bus with it, plus, even raised to the max setting it allows, I can only get 2.3ghz, not to mention the whole issue of instability when doing so.
Re:On you mobo is a Reset CMOS jumper, use it and you should be back to normal.
