Direct3D: What is the advantage [first person shooter] [direct3d]

Q: Is there any advantage to using Direct3D to accelerate a game, as opposed to OpenGL? Is it easier? cheaper?

The reason I ask is, I just downloaded the demo of Venom. It seems a great first person shooter, except for the Direct3D not OpenGL.

I have a 64MB GeForce DDR CL (225/380) (latest drivers) PII450, and 384 MB of system RAM. Enough for a game I would think to handle. However, Venom slows considerably with 1024×768x16. Its too annoying to play with all that inertia.
