It's only money right?

If you have Internet access on the laptop, install the <a class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.analogx.com" (http://www.analogx.com") target=blank>AnalogX</A> proxy server on the laptop and configure the other computers to use it. You'll need a wired Ethernet connection on the laptop to plug into your local LAN.

This would be the cheapest way to do it, but who wants to leave the laptop on just because one of the other computers needs net access? Blah.

FYI – most ISP's would frown on this so be sure you arent breaking any rules as well. Hate to see your neighbor lose his connection while you get yours in the future.

Re:The only thing I've ever connected with firewire is a disk drive and a Digital Video Camera, I have never considered it a networking medium. :)

Though I don't know what's going on with the laptop, I'd try to diagnose why the two NIC's conflict, I've run Compaq EVO-160 laptops with a wireless PCMCIA card and the on-board 10/100 NIC without any issues.

Thanks for the suggestion. For some reason when I enable my NIC (on board Compaq 10/100) in my laptop, the wireless network no longer works. As soon as I disable it, the wireless network begins to work again. Whats with that?

Is there any way to do this over FireWire? My laptop and desktop both have firewire ports and I have a Male -> Male cable

Is there any way to do this via software? Can I use my D-link wifi router as a bridge?

I don't think so, even though it seems it would be easy. I tried to do a similar thing with a D-link 713P and a D-link 614+ and couldn't get it to work that way. I currently use 3 Linksys WET11's with the 614 and it works great.

I am thinking that maybe it is because you would then be using NAT on another private network address and it may be unroutable because of that. Not sure though.

Re:Get a wireless bridge such as a Linksys WET11 and plug it into an open wired port on the router…….set it up to the right network name and such for your neighbors network of course.

If DHCP is enabled on your neighbors router then disable it on yours while your using his bandwidth.

This should work for ya.
